what do you need to really get into UT Houston BSN program?

U.S.A. Texas

Does anyone know what you really need to get into UT Houston What GPA? Also, what do they want as far as prior medical experience?

You don't. I took a CNA course just for application purposes and it never really got used. Also all I needed to do was submit my application fee, transcript, and HESI scores and I was suprised I got selected. I was just glad I didn't need to go buy a suit, that's an extra $400 I don't have to spare at the moment. Not sure how they will do it next semeser but I remember reading TWU had a similar process also.

The only experience I have comes from a health science tech program that I did in high school for 2 years, and from volunteering at Texas Children's Hospital for a year about 8 years ago when I was 15 - none of these things were included (or can be included) in my application to UT-Houston, and I still got in, so experience isn't a factor.

taylorxteddy: you have great stats, so you have nothing to worry about. Just focus on getting good scores on the HESI, particularly in the A&P, Critical Thinking, and Math sections.

saraht13: There was no essay section on the application. It was actually pretty straight-forward: name/address/schools attended etc...just basic information. This might change for the next application cycle, though.

Hi! I just visited the UTHSC in Houston today for the very first time! My friend and I absolutely loved it. I am 22, have been a Nurse's Aide for 2 years, am currently in an LVN program which I will graduated from in August, and have a few more pre-reqs to take care of before I apply to the BSN program. I was just wondering how difficult the application process is? I see that there is no interview, does anyone know if they are going to carry on with that new guideline?

Also, as far as gaining experience, I suggest finding a part time job as a Nurse's Aid at a hopsital. You will be exposed to all types of situations, and if you have great nurse's to work with like I do, they will teach you things along the way. It also helps in school, because you know the basics of patient care which is ultimately the most important part of nursing. If you can't care for another human being, and show compassion and intelligence while doing it, then another career path would be appropriate. But, if you realise you can handle all the situations random patients throw your way, then the clinical side of nursing school is a breeze!

prenursing9892: I was kind of hoping there would be an essay or maybe at least an interview to maybe help me out. I'm still kind of scared I won't make it in because of my GPA. Right now my prereq GPA is a 3.4 and my science is a 3.5. Do you think I have any chance of getting in? If you don't mind telling me, what was your GPA when you got in?

Hasn't been any posts on this board since May... I take my HESI on Monday, and I'm super nervous. Have any of you taken it yet?

no one should be disouraged about applying, the worst they can say is no, and if your dont apply its a no anyway

Hey, so sorry I didn't respond sooner...I haven't really been on here lately. Really, you have nothing to worry about. You have great GPAs, and I believe that you have a great chance of getting in. My GPAs when I got in were a 3.7 prereq and 4.0 science. Many people who got in had GPAs above and below mine, so don't sweat it!

Hi!

New to this thread. Is anyone here applying for the accelerated BSN program for Summer 2012 entrance??

Hey B Hagendorf!!

I'm currently in the process of applying to the Summer 2012 program!!

I want to know more about the pacesetter program in UT Houston. Can I get in the BSN as soon as I graduated from high school? I have concerns about the pre reqs. Can I take AP class in high school to satisfy the minimum 40 hrs? Did anyone get in UT Houston for BSN after high school?
