I think taking your science classes at UH and doing well in them will certainly give you an edge. I personally talked to the associate dean of nursing at UTMB and he told me that their admission's committee favors courses completed at UH's science dept. UH's science dept. is hard, but it has a stellar reputation in the eyes of admission's committees. Just my opinion...
Hello, I just changed my major from hotel management to pursue nursing. I am totally lost what to do. I just finished my sophomore year and since my first major didn't really require high GPA, I am pretty much freaked out about how much I have to make up for applying to nursing school. I am pretty much done with all core classes but need to take nursing prerequisites such as A&P 1,2, microbiology, nutrition, and etc.. I am considering HCC or other 4 year nursing school in HOuston. I hope I could at least get into Hcc nursing program in Spring 08. Is there any hope for me to minimize the time and money. I am currently a student at U of H and it doesn't have nursing program but I would like to take some courses in Fall while I take some nursing prerequisite courses at HCC at the same time. ARe there any difference of taking prenursing courses at U of H or HCC?Please help. I am lost and hopeless. Thank you.

I thought i heard that UH started a nursing program last summer?
Yes U-H started a nursing program for RN-BSN in Sugarland. My advice is focus on A's at this point to make up for other grades to boost GPA. Also don't let someone tell you that if you recieve a C or two or even some B's that it won't cut because I made into a nursing school where students thought it was life or death if you receive less than an A. I personally have a lot of A's but have receive two C's and five B's. One C was in a nursing class before applying and there were others that said I had no chance. Best advice I can give is have all A's in your science class and keep your eye on the prize. Don't let anyone stray you from it if its your true calling. Good Luck and GOD BLESS because you will need both. ;)
I was a U of H student for 3 years, and took most of my pre-reqs there. I recommend Dr. Rorscharch for Nutrition and Dr. Gill for A& P, cause you will need those classes pretty much anywhere you go for nursing. Oh, and it really doesn't matter where you take the classes, they only care about the grade you make. I had taken classes from U of H and two local community colleges when I moved, and it did not hurt me. I got in on my first try at TCU - Dallas!!! (Will start in the fall!!!)
