  1. hello, everyone! i need some tips from who had been in my situation before! i failed out of nursing program after studying for 3 years. i had only one semester to graduate, but that doesn't matter anymore from this point! i want to be a nurse and i want to complete my studies with what i have so far. i am a foreign citizen nursing student in texas, therefore, i really don't want to wait on another semester, while spending so much money for living. so, i decided to graduate with b.s in liberal studies first in december 2011. with that, i am planning to enter adn program, however, with nursing courses i have completed with bloody efforts, i really want them to transfer, so that i can finish adn in a year. a lot of adn programs were mentioning transfer credits from either blocked or integrated curriculum. it looks like they can shorten to a year if i have many credits from integrated. what does that really mean? is normal bsn nursing program usually integrated? also, i have seen from other nursing forums saying that if i have a bachelor degree in something then go for adn, a lot of hospitals consider you like bsn. i mean i am doubting about the statement, but is that possible? can somebody tell me from your experiences? do you think going to adn program is the best option to become a rn at this point? how about i go to lvn program first then enter lvn to bsn program? would it be the same time span? my primary factor to consider is time and money. with my cultural background, i don't have much time. everybody expects you to finish as fast as you can, because with student visa we have, we are only limited to work only on campus for upto 20hr/ week and that is not enough to support my education, which means my family is my financial source for now. a lot of students in the forum say they will try as long as they can to become a nurse. i don't have that option, but i have strong desire and motivation to stand up and try again to become a nurse. i welcome all the comments and please help me continue my nursing education. thank you very much!
  2. i have looked at family history, but her husband doesn't smoke either. Since there is not much to expand from here, my professor just suggested expanding more pathos about her secondary illness. I have to relate hypothyroidism, htn, and a-fib. I know hypothyroidism and hypertension are linked together and I now hypertension and a fib are linked together, but can anyone briefly describe integrating three of these conditions please? Another question: She wasn't taking thyroid medicine during the care. Do you think she was treating it without medications? Or is there a reason to not take the medicine and treat hypertension? As you can see, I am quite lost.. Help!!! Thank you all.
  3. Hello, I need a major help. I had to write a paper about a patient who came in to hospital to have thoracotomy and lobectomy for her lung cancer and my professor gave me one more chance to redo it, cause she believed it wasn't integrating enough and she wanted me to expand it little more. If I don't pass this paper, I get fail in the clinical part and that means failing the whole class. I felt I have put enough but I may be missing somethings She had a non small cell stage II lung cancer without a history of smoking. She has thymoma, but at the day of care, doctors were saying she would have surgery after she recovers from lung sx. After lobectomy, she developed chylothorax and a fib. She had chest tube, central line with 3 lumen involving abx, amiodorone, and TPN. She also had Q pain pump. Her history include hypertension, hypothyroidism, and known a-fib. I had to make an integrated patho of her disease process and how it affected her to have lung cancer and relate each history or current illness. Since she was not a smoker, it is really hard to describe how she got the lung cancer. I am trying to put environment factor, maybe she living in a farm, but it is just hard to get a lot of resources, since it was not shown in the chart the reason she developed tumor in her lung. I feel I need to explain more about hypothyroidism, htn, and a fib, but I am having hard times wording out and expanding it. English is second language for me, so I don't want to confuse my professor and end up failing. That would be sooo tragic. Please give me some tips or can somebody explain it easier ? Thank you very much... Everybody have a great Easter weekend!! P.S some care plan tips would also help!!!!!!! EP
  4. so can i still apply for intership under CPT now and I won't have problem working under OPT after graduation? This whole CPT and OPT just confuse me.. I still have 2 summers prior to my graduation, so would you recommend me doing an internship from now on? I honestly only know basic skills, PO meds, and parenteral administration. I heard something about externship too, but I am not sure if international student can do that.. sorry about too many questions at once
  5. Hello, I am a nursing student in TX. I am from South Korea and currently on F-1 visa. I just started nursing school since last fall and was wondering what F1 nursing student can do during the summer break in USA to enhance the understanding and gain more experiences? please give me any suggestion or tell me your what you did after the first year of nursing school. Thank you!!
  6. Hello, I am in my first year of nursing school in Texas. I am from South Korea and I have been studying in U.S for 7 years. I changed my major to nursing a year ago and caught up all the required courses, got in to nursing school and my first clinical start in one week! I went to a hospital orientation last week and luckily, our instructor assigned us to perform a bed bath to an elder patient. I only got to learn that once last semester, but was pretty familiar with the procedure since I nailed the tutorial video the night before, assuming that I probably would get tested. Thanks to the video, I wasn't that bad, however, what actually gave me a big ass anxiety was that when I encountered my very first patient, my mouth was completely shut by this invisible languge barrier crap that didn't really showed up during my 7 year of study abroad in this country!!!!!! I was so disappointed at myself. It was just totally different class of language and I am now very worried this is going to make me look like a dumb!!! For example, when I was about to wipe her abdomen, all I could say was, "I am going to clean your abdomen now." So were for her extremities! "I am going to clean your arm now." How awful and repeated sentence is that for an elder patient who deserves more friendly nurse who can comfort her physically and mentally? I don't know if all of native english speakers face the same problem similiar to mine, but I am so devastated by this incidence. I do not look professional at all!!!!!!! Please share with me.. or help me!!!!!
  7. I am trying to buy a decent uniform and shoes for clinical labs!!! but I do want to buy something that's less ugly than usual. My school is requiring every item to be in white and the shoes have to be in plain leather. Can you recommend me what's really nice brand for uniform and shoes? I need more help on shoes, so please comment anytime!!!! thank you!! happy new year !!
  8. what i meant was not about school doing things for me. i know what i am supposed to do. i am all ready. you just don't know my situation. but anyway, thanks.
  9. Hello, I got accepted to this nursing program in TX, and I accepted to enroll in the program starting this fall 08. However, I just feel that this school may not provide a good nursing program as I expect from other schools I got denied. I know, just being in a nursing program is just great, but are there any other texas nursing school that accept a transfer student with previous nursing school enrollment?? and what are the general steps I need to take to transfer??? Thank you.
  10. i got into the survey program @ Tarleton!!! it's sad that i am leaving houston!!! I really don't wanna leave houston!!! but maybe i am going to study really hard and transfer back to houston or something!!!! good luck to all of you!!
  11. how is Stephenville area? I live in houston right now and i know the town is close to Fort Worth, but is it like a typical town everybody stereotypes? I am not spoiled or whatever, but I need to ask this. I really love coffee and nice little cafes to study or just chill out.Is there any nice sitting and relaxing coffee shop? any comment would help me out just to figure out thanx

  13. Hello, I am writing this with a lot of hope that some of you are in Tarleton State BSN program!!! I have applied but their response is very late. Actually I really don't have a lot of info about their BSN program. If anyone knows anything, please let me know!!!! This school is called "Tarleton State University," and it's located in Stephenville, Texas. another question!!! Is it true that international students are only 1% in this school? Being a foreign student myself, that would be one of factors I consider!!! Thank you very much!!!!!
  14. thanks everyone for your honest response. Of course I know and I have been regreting and now I am trying to work harder to improve my gpa. I am applying schools right now and I am keeping myself very busy. I hope I get some good news from the programs.
  15. hello, I made some mistakes last semester and my gpa is not as good as somebody who can get accepted into UT houston or baylor. I have a low gpa but of course more than 2.5 but i know the nursing programs are very competitive and I learned from my mistakes and now I am trying to raise my gpa by taking some classes again.. I believe i will ace this semester, but i know for sure it won't go up as much as i want. I am trying to apply some bsn programs in texas that might accept me for the fall semester. any recommendation for schools that I should apply for? for a reference, I aced A&P 1 and 2, microbiology, and nutrition. HELP!!!
