Hi, I am new here and I was just probing around on the internet looking up information on continuing education from lvn to rn and decided to register on this site when it appeared on information I was going over, even though I registered on this site I'm still not sure how this nurse chat forum works. This is a my first post too! I'm currently attending an LVN program through our local junior college and the way it works here is that as soon as I complete the program and have all of my graduation and RN requirements out of the way, I can apply for the last year of the RN/ASN program. My counselor told me that the RN program will always make room for the LVN to RN students.

I encourage you to make an appointment with a counselor at your local college to see what you can do. Good luck!

Do you want information on this website and LVN to RN information? I can't tell me alot about the website, registered in 2003, but have been away for awhile, and just returned recently.

As far as an LVN to RN program; I am currently in a LVN to RN Transition program right now. About to graduate in May. I graduated from LVN school in 2004, started working at a hospital (Med/Surg, Ortho unit) and finished my pre-reqs for the Transition program. Got laid off after working 10 months, the hospital decided to lay off ALL the LVN's in the hospital (very sad for the people that had worked there for 20+ years). I was already in school at the time, so didn't adversely affect me the way it did others.

Do you have any schools in mind? Do you have your pre-reqs done? More than happy to give you any information I can. Good Luck!

:yeahthat: That's the best way to get yourself on the right track!!

I need help too, I have been an LPN in the Army for 4 years now and have just gotten out and want to go back to school but dont know where to start. Need help with the whole LPN to RN bridge stuff...how does it work? I just have 2 more years of school and then I can take the RN boards???

Most community college offer the LPN to RN transition program which consist of a transition course and the last 2 semester of the Rn program. Most community college require that all pre-req courses be completed, some community colleges require that an exam be passed for admission into the Rn program. It all depend on the school requirement so get to the neartest commuity colleges in your area and starting checking out their individual requirement. Good luck!

Hey Debsuztx, I graduate in May too! Congrats to all may graduates, especially the Lpns to Rns.

Hello Nurses,

I am very new to this . im a new grad LVN, i was thinking about the 30 unit options lvn to rn program. When i think of all the pre-reqs i get lazy all over again. I wanted to know if anyone went through this program successfully and is currently working as a RN.

I live in california and dont plan on moving no time soon, if you know of any schools that offer this program please let me know .

thanks for your time !

depends on how many classes you can take per semester. I have been only able to take 2 classes/sem cause I work full-time and have a mortgage to pay. I have been going to school since 2003! But I had to take some remedial math classes which ate up some valuable time. They were required but don't count towards RN. When I went to LVN school 16 yrs ago, nothing pre-req was required so I had zero college credits to my name. For me it has been painfully slow but I have a great GPA and may be ready to apply to an actual nursing program in Jan (if not- it looks like Fall). One problem: admission into a nursing program is very competitive and all of the programs require different pre-req's- very frustrating! Good Luck
