  1. I don't think it really matters if you have an ADN or BSN. Well, except for one hospital that told them they prefer hiring BSN's over ADN's, but would hire an ADN with 6 months experience. This hospital is one of the best in Houston and I guess they can pay to be particular. Well, I don't know how you do that without someone giving you a chance to begin with. It's like a catch 22; there's a nursing shortage but they want you to have experience.
  2. I had one instructor tell me to "re-think my career choice." And another one basically tell me "I wasn't SMART enough to be a nurse." Well, I showed them. I went on to get my LVN, and just recently graduated from my Transition program to get my RN. I'm glad I didn't listen to either one of them. I know they are still teaching and still being their rotten selves.
  3. Still nothing on the horizon! I have heard of internships for new grads, but most of them started right after I graduated. I did see one for St. Lukes, but my HESI score wasn't high enough for them. I have applied to St. Lukes, Memorial Hermann, Methodist, HCA, Tenet, Triumph, Kelsey Seybold, etc. No takers yet. How long should I wait after I have applied online and submitted my resume to call or go up to the facility and show my face and ask for the job in person? As you can tell, I'm not very patient. Just feeling very frustrated at the moment. Thanks for letting me vent.
  4. Just wanted to ask the many of you that have just graduated that didn't obtain jobs before you graduated if you are having any difficulty finding a job? I just started looking and I am running into the theme of "you don't have any experience as an RN." Well, duh, I just graduated in May. But, I do have 1 year experience as an LVN, which I thought would be enough, but as of right now, it's not. I know many people obtain employment before graduating which I think is probably the route to go, but I had my Review class and I had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy after I graduated so I couldn't work until now. Any comments, suggestions, tips, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I know I need to be patient since I've just starting looking, but the first two possible job prospects for me ended with "no experience as an RN". Thanks for letting me vent in this forum, since my husband probably gets tired of me talking about it.
  5. I PASSED!!!! Took test on Monday at 8; found out this am. The waiting for horrible. I got 76 questions; 3 all that apply, 1 math, lots of assessing and prioritizing. What a relief. Good luck to all who are about to take and especially those of you who are currently waiting. Everyone told me I would pass, but until you see the word "pass" the anxiety is overwhelming.
  6. LizzieJ, RN! How great! Congratulations! This is the news I wanted to hear since I take the NCLEX tomorrow am at 8. I keep telling myself that I will pass the test, that I have the knowledge and capabilities to do it! It's just so hard when so much is riding on this one test. Of the 50 people I graduated with, 39 people have taken it, and only 1 person hasn't passed. I believe she didn't pass because she really was OVERANXIOUS about the test and it threw her. I took LVN boards two years ago, but I don't think I was this nervous. Hoping and praying all will go well. Thanks for the post!
  7. I am trying to remain calm, think positive, and do something other than study at this point. It's really great to see all of the postings regarding the NCLEX and how SO many people felt after taking it; now, if I can just remember that tomorrow. Any last minute tips anyone can give me? I know ABC's, Maslows, Safety, Pain, Fluids, etc. I'm just hoping and PRAYING that I can get through the test and then wait the dreaded 48 hours to receive the results. Good Luck to the many others who are taking the NCLEX this week and beyond!
  8. Hey AnaBanana12! I'm in the same boat as you. I take the test on Monday at 8 am. At this point, all you can do is pray and put it in God's hands. I have studied till I think I can't study anymore. Yesterday, I had done so many questions, that I started getting them wrong, I think just because my head is overflowing with information and I'm just plain tired of doing this. Tomorrow, I am going to church, out to lunch, and to the movies. I may review BRIEFLY, but that's it. My friend took the NCLEX last week and the marker board that you use in the test (like an etch-a-sketch), well she put 75at the top and it and cirlcled it! I kept telling her she was going to get 75 and she did! The power of positive thinking really works! At least, I hope it does. Good Luck to you!
  9. 25 Minutes? Is that like a record or something? Congratulations to you, what a wonderful feeling to have it done. I take the NCLEX in 6 days, and the anticipation is killing me. Best of luck to you now and in the years to come!
  10. BLUEYESOFTEXASNURSE: I just love that screen name! PearsonVue does post on both Saturdays and Sundays from what I've been told from other classmates. It's supposed to be 48 hours from when you took your test. Hope this helps.
  11. I am come to realize I don't think it matters what the number is. The reason I say this is because I have talked to or emailed classmates that have had the following numbers: 75 (yes, many get this number), 170, 261, 265 (yes, some got this many). When I took my LVN boards, the magic number is 85, but my friend got 140. So, go figure. I think we try to figure out if the number really means something, but at this point I don't think it does. I have to tell myself to remember this in a couple of weeks when I take the boards. Good luck to you!
  12. Hello to all that have tested and PASSED! How exciting. I had to post something because I'm about to come out of my skin and need some words of encouragement, etc. I graduated in May, took the Kaplan review course at the end of May, had an Abdominal Hysterectomy the first week of June. I am currently trying to recuperate and trying (and I mean literally) to study for NCLEX. I took a practice test last night and made a 41%. I was APPALLED. Did I forget everything I've learned from nursing school? Did the anesthesia affect me in some adverse way? Am I pushing myself too hard? I don't know, I'm at a loss at the moment. If anyone has information on the effects of anesthesia and memory, please let me know. My husband thinks I'm pushing myself too hard, that I should focus on getting better and then think about studying. I can always move the test to a later date when I feel better about things. But, I think it's going to make me more anxious about it.
  13. I'm not sure about California, but in Texas the Board posts names on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. So if you took your boards on Wednesday it wouldn't show up until the following Tuesday. That was what happened to me when I took my LVN boards. Maybe someone from CA knows how and when the BON posts there.
  14. Just printed my ATT and the Quick Results Service information. It states, Please wait two business days after your test before you request your results. I wouldn't consider Sunday because they don't test on Sundays. I have a classmate who took it this past Friday and told me she would be checking it on Monday. Good Luck!:balloons:
  15. I am so GLAD someone posted this thread. I have been wondering this very same question. I am having a laprascopic hysterectomy this coming Tuesday and will meet with my OB/GYN on Monday to go over my procedure, ask questions, labwork, etc. I'm thinking you don't get a PCA if you have it done laprascopically since its not really cutting on the patient. But, PAIN is PAIN. My friend had a total thyroidectomy two weeks ago, and I went to visit her in the hospital and she had a PCA, and was definitely using it. So, what's the difference?
