I'm an RN from upsate NY , and we may be relocating to the Hicory area. Any suggestions for job searches? We currently live in a small town, we have two middle school aged children and we love to go camping. How is the housing market/taxes? NY state taxes are bleeding us dry, the crime is out of control as is the drug problem, and we are currently freezing our bahoobas off!!!!! Anyone want to buy a house? Thanks

I think you will find the Hickory area a wonderful change. The area is close to the beautiful mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Lake James is just gorgeous.

There are several hospitals both in Hickory and several within a 30 mile radius. Here is a list:
Frye Regional Medical Center (Tenet) - Hickory, NC
Catawba Valley Medical Center - Hickory, NC
Valdese Hospital - Valdese, NC
Caldwell Memorial Hospital - Lenior, NC
Grace Hospital - Morganton, NC
Iredell Memorial Hospital - Statesville, NC
Davis Medical Center - Statesville, NC
Gaston Memorial Hospital - Gastonia, NC
These are just to name a few. Hope this helps you out in your job search. Good luck !!

I live in Asheville and work at Mission Hospitals. The pay is okay...My friends get paid a whole lot more in Johnson City, TN. The orientation was great. But always remember...it is the people who you encounter that make an experience worth it. My first department's orientation is the reason I left that department. My second department at the hospital has been a dream. Its all in the draw of the cards.
