Need a Hopistal Job with Tuition Reimbursement

Published

Hi There,

I just got accepted to Nassau CC's nursing program for September. I am looking to get a hospital job, with some sort of tuition program. Some of my friends that are nurses worked at hospitals, got there tuition paid for and then worked at the hospital 2 years following their graduation. I am looking for a situation like that. Does anyone know of any hopsitals on Long Island off hand that offer that kind of program. Thanks to all of you for your help.

One step at a time sweetheart. Graduate first, pass your NCLEX then lets worry about tuition reimbursement. Thats a WHOLE 2 years from now, things could change, policies can go into affect at that time. We will never know, maybe ALL hospitals will offer reimbursement. A lot of them do, if youre willing to sign a contract and work for them for 5 years. It depends. Lets concentrate on the present. Im a NCC student too, PM me if you have any concerns. I also start in the fall, have you tried financial aid?

Maybe I didn't explain properly. All the people I spoke to got school paid for, while they were being educated. They worked as aides, etc.

One of the women in my Micro class at Farmingdale works at Winthrop part time as a unit secretary and was just talking about this today. I'm pretty sure she said you have to work full time there in order to get tuition reimbursement, but from what she said there's also some kind of Nursing Grant they give as well. They're not really hiring for much right now - at least according to the website...but she said that may change because it depends upon when they have their orientation programs. She said it seems like they're always hiring PCAs. Maybe you can get more info if you call them - I think there's a number on the website...HEY - you never know!

Good Luck!

You explained just fine. I don't think it's a bad idea if you can juggle work and school at the same time.

Unless you already have your CNA license, you most likely need to pass foundations/fundamental before you become one.

My recommendation would be to concentrate on the first semester without working, then towards the end of the semester, start looking into CNA and/or student nurse opportunities with hospitals that pay tuition.

Most hosptials require you to be at least half time before benefits get in. Really think about if you can handle those hours and school at the same time. Some people can, others can't.

Good luck!

Thats really nice of Winthrop. I know the CHS hospitals and South Nassau offer tuition assistance but you have to be employed with them for a year to be eligible. By then you will only have 1 more year of nursing school to go.

Most of the North Shore Health system hospitals have tution reimbursement. In order to qualify you must work at the hospital for at least 6 months. The amount of tution reimbursment depends on if you are full time or part time. North Shore is also affiliated with various colleges within the area (including NCC) and some offer tution discounts. You do not have to be a Nurse to be eligible for tution reimbursement. You may work as an aide, cna, secretary etc.. I do not know what the job market is for these positions, so I suggest calling their Human Resourses department for more info.. Lastly if you are looking for a hospital job consider attending an open house or a nursing job fair. There you will meet recruiters from varoius hospitals and they can give you information regarding benefits and tution reimbursement. Lots of luck!!

Winthrop pays $3000 a year tution reimbursement, you have to be working there fulltime for a year to receive it, and continue to work fulltime. St. Francis the reimbursement is $4000 a year, and you need to be working 6 mons, and at least 24 hours a week to receive it. However, you are in very tough program, I would not be working a lot of hours, the bare minium if possible. Get finiancial aid or a private loan, you can pay off the loan after you start working as a RN. The other program you may be thinking about is HHC program, where they pay the full time tution and costs and pay you full time salary while you are in school, however for every year you are in school, you must give city hospitals two years back.
