Hi everyone, I review therapy claims for payment and in reviewing one of the evaluations, the OT used the acronym "GG" in the goals. The patient was referred for decreased self-feeding ability and the treatment plan includes strengthening exercises and self-feeding tasks with minimal assistance or verbal cueing.
Here is the goal the therapist wrote:
"Increase bilateral GG from 4/5 to 3+/5"
Can anyone tell me what the GG means?
I've searched the documentation and there is no key to the acronyms. I've also searched online and reached out to my fellow nurses but we're all stumped.
We're thinking it may have to do with gross motor function but since I have to detail information in a letter to the provider with my decision, I need to have accurate info.
Thanks!

I think you have a misprint, or bad hand writing. tried "acronym finder" and "approved abbreviation for OT" and didn't come up with anything. refer back for clarification/correction.

Gravity Goniometer
Why not ask therapy tp explain their goal?
wouldn't seem to fit, grammatically/syntactically, and wouldn't the measurement be expressed in degrees? and, yes, I already suggested to ask person who generated this to clarify.

Like others suggested, ask the OT for clarification.
Unfortunately, we don't have access to the providers. We subcontract under a RAC for the regional MAC so no contact whatsoever with the providers. The OT documented GG on each and every treatment page as one of the ongoing goals and in their detailed comments. The typed exercise descriptions don't reflect anything that would be compatible to the GG. It's a frustrating fact that many therapists make up their own acronyms when documenting and don't always follow the "approved list of acronyms". Those that do follow the approved list and provide excellent documentation are always a refreshing break from the norm.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I appreciate the input.
then I suppose your only alternative is to refuse to approve, then they will have to resubmit?
