NEED HELP! Nursing student with pending DUI charges

Nurses Criminal

Published

I was arrested 3 months ago for a DUI, I made a poor decision and I got behind the wheel. I had to do a breathalyzer and showed over 80 mg. I truly regret what happened, I had a very bad night previously to that. This is my first arrest I am not a usual drinker. 3 months later I got accepted into my nursing program I have been working so hard for many years to get where I am today. I hired a lawyer I don't know what to do. My school requires a police record check. I want to know if I can still continue my studies and become a nurse or there is absolutely no chances for me to continue. I am located in Ontario.

In my State they only regard convictions on background checks, not arrests. Can you find out if they look at specifically arrest records?  Have you been convicted or is your case still pending?  Was there a place on the application that asks for arrest or convictions and you didn't disclose it?  Look in the school catalog, it should be online if you don't have a copy. In there you'll find the policies that might address your situation.
