(I posted this on the summer I micro club thread, but so many students are starting later....)
I'm supposed to start tonight, but I'm going to miss the first day of class. lol (My daughter is going to be given an award at her Jr. High awards ceremony.)
So, the instructor told me to read ch1 and ch2. I am doing the objective/study guide questions she has posted. There are 16 questions, but a couple of them I can't find a direct answer!
We are using Microbiology by Tortora, Funke and Case.
#3 Give examples of pathogens, opportunists and normal flora.
#5 Give viral structures and the molecular composition of each structure.
#6 Know the levels of classification from domains to strains.
#7 Recognize and explain the proper scientific nomenclature of m/o's: genus, species, and strains.
It's sad, I can't even understand the first chapter!
Thanks for posting this. I am using the same book and we started last night too. We can try to help each other along. Funny thing is, I almost missed the first class too, bc it was my son's last T Ball game (priorities :)). I wound up going to the first half of T Ball and the last half of class (missed the boring "go over the syllabus" part). Anyway, thank you also to the one who posted those PPT links!!!!
I would have went to at least half, but I live too far away from the college where I am taking this class.
Good luck! :)

Thank you for posting the powerpoints! I started microbiology last night also. I am really gonna like this class. Is there a place on the web where we can go to download the rest of the powerpoints? We are using the same book also and I purchased the coloring book that goes with it, really helps me alot.
When deciding to go back to school a year ago, one of my main concerns was missing my daughter's stuff (she's in 8th grade). I've always been there for the award assemblies, field trips, etc. Well, my counselor told my that it's time for me to have my own life - and that by doing so, ultimately I will be a better mother, and let her begin to have her own life, too. Imagine my surprise to find out that I don't have to be there for every single thing! Of course I still go when I can, and there are enough times when I must miss school because of illness or other unavoidables. But I just can't spread myself too thin when it isn't totally necessary.
I am taking microbiology that started a week ago Monday nite. We had one class last week as our instructor has been sick, really sick, with bacterial bronchitis. It is a semester class and we are doing it in 7 weeks. Now am not sure what will happen as he still has not been able to teach. We start back tomorrow nite, gonna be fun catching up! Oh well, I can do it, I keep telling myself.
