My cousins recently found an old picture that appears to be my grandmother (born 1899) in nursing school. We had no idea! We doubt she graduated as she never, ever mentioned it to any of us- and all of our parents have passed away so there's no one to ask.
Obviously, my curiosity is piqued- and I want to find out some details.
Mildred Hurless graduated from DePue (IL) High School in 1917 we believe. The picture shows a group of students on the front steps of either a hospital or (less likely) college building. I am having trouble finding a comprehensive list of diploma schools in central Illinois that would have been operating in that time period. There is another picture of her and an "Ellyn McCord" in their uniforms in a more casual photo.
Complicating matters- some jerk has lifted the pic already from FB, posted it on Reddit and labeled it "Indiana Nursing Schools in the 19th Century" (I live in Indiana). I've tried a reverse image search but the only hits I got were this Reddit which posted it yesterday shortly after my FB post.
The "1850" above the doorway is either the year the building was erected (more likely) or the address of the building (less likely). My wonderful grandmother is in the top row, furthest left.
Wow! That's so cool! I'm sorry that I am completely useless in terms of the answers you seek, but I wish you the best of luck. I'm a sentimental sap and love genealogy/family history stuff.
This is my great great aunt, she graduated from the Good Samaritan Hospital program in Oregon in 1921. I have her class ring. ? I hope you find some answers, @meanmaryjean
Hey there I actually travel thru DePue IL. It’s a tiny town, no hospital no college of nursing. Nearest hospital is Spring Valley IL. No nearby college of nursing at least currently

ANY help is welcomed and appreciated.
