Hi everyone,

I graduated last year as a RN, since then been applying at different hospitals and havent had the opportunity to get in. I am currently working at a Nursing home ( 8 months) but honestly dont like it. Its not what am looking for. My areas of interest always been Maternal Child Health. I am so desperate to find a job at a hospital that i would accept a position in any unit. Does anyone knows whats the best way to go about applying to Hospitals, any tips or suggestions? Does anyone that lives in NJ knows of any hospital hiring at this moment? Thanks.

look on monster, career finder or the websites of hospitals in NJ

Call the nurse recruiter or HR directly. I did this and the recruiter was able to recommend some specific positions to apply for. I did the online application, had a call the next day, an interview the next week, and a job offer a week after that! Also let them know you will work anywhere. I don't know where you live but there is a good chance there is at least 1 hard to fill hospital nursing job that would be interested in you. Also try to contact the unit managers directly. That helps. Best of luck. I know how hard the job market is because I am looking to switch units and am not having much to pick from.

Specializes in Ortho and Med/Surg.

At our hospital, Maternal Child Health is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get into. Every nursing student on our floor (an ortho/med-surg unit) has stars in their eyes and says "I want to work with babies". It really is difficult. You may have to start in a med-surg unit and build some basic nursing background. It also lets you get your foot in the door of the hospital. Our hospital offers positions INTERNALLY first (even though they advertise on the net/in the paper).

Have you applied for other positions other than just the one you mentioned? :)

At my hospital someone has to literally die before there is a labor and delivery position open........

I think you should contact the managers directly. Its what I did plus be persistent and don't give up. :D
