Hi! Good evening to allnurses members.. I'm an American citizen residing here in California working as a RN.. I just have a question regarding the Fiancee visa.. I decided to arrange the papers of my Fiancee who is currently living in the Philippines right now thru Fiancee Visa.. She graduated from nursing school last May,2009 and I just want to find out..Before she's going to be here in California, does she still need to take her local board exam in Philippines before she can practice to be a RN here in California? What other test does she need to pass before being eligible to be RN here in California?

I know the other things she need just in case she only needs to pass the NCLEX exam (like SSN, working permit and being married when she will be here in USA).. I would really appreciate all your help.. Godbless to all!

Not sure why you think it is OK to train as a nurse but not sit the local exam (if you can)

So if it is going to take the person over 5 years to get to the US how are they going to maintain adequate nursing experience? Employers will expect to see something and 5 years is a long time not to be working as a nurse and gaining experience

Sitting for Local Exam should be decided between the couple, who is coming to USA. I really see no need sit for local when they need to concentrate on getting Visa to USA.

Sorry, I don't know where you come up with 5 years, The Poster just graduated last month and plans on doing a marriage Visa to USA, that only takes a few months.

There is no such thing as a marriage visa. There is a fiancee visa, from which you adjust status. Or there is an immigrant visa for married couples.

To be honest you are better contacting the BRN and getting an answer straight from them, some members here have been lucky and just submitted a letter of explanation others haven't. Even if she doesn't plan on practising in the Philippines I don't think that is a good enough reasons not to sit the exam. I know it can be expensive but there is nothing stopping the boards of nursing in the US require a license in the country you have trained in

I already sent an email to the BON here in California.. I might be contacting them tomorrow to find out if it's really required.. I'm going to let you know guys what would be their answer to help also other members who's experiencing my problem.

Sorry Gonna have to disagree:

There is not "Many", it was an isolated few many months ago. If you read other boards that deal with Philippines and nursing you will find that written explantion is all you need.

Passing NLE if they plan on living and working in USA is waste of time and money, if they are not required by their states BON.

Bottom line their is always mis infromation floating around regarding Nursing requirments from Nursing students from PI and working in USA.

They real solution is to contact your local states BON directly and find out correct answer.

That's one of my reasons Itzallgood.. I'm just wondering if someone have the same problem with me that knows the answer.. Its so true that it's just a waste of money and time if I'm gonna let my fiancee take the NLE then it's not required here in California.. I want to save the money for the fees in paperworks of the fiancee visa.. I'm going to let you know guys what the BON would say to me after I contact them tomorrow.. Thanks Itzallgood for your help.

It's only going to take about 3-7 months for the fiancee visa to be approved and by that time, my fiancee could be here in California this year. And for that reason, I don't want to wait next year for my fiancee to be here if NLE is not required here in California.. We've been for long distance relationship a long time and it's been really hard for the both of us.

I'm arranging my fiancee's papers through fiancee visa.. Any ideas if she needs to take her NLE to work here in California?

But your answer didn't indicate that and not everyone comes over on Fiancée or CR1 if married

No idea, I don't work in CA.

The topic and poster indicated "Fiance Visa"

Shouldn't it be up to your fiancee is she takes the NLE? Why would an adult woman have to get a man's permission to take an exam?

She can take the NLE if she wants to but for what? She's not going to work in the Philippines anyways and if it's not required here in California, there's no reason to take it.. You can save time and money and just spend it on the fees of the paperworks.

Update: I called the BON Ca today and explained to them my situation.. And they said that my Fiancee can take the NCLEX without a PI license.. Just provide them a letter of explanation and that's it.. Thanks for your help and time allnurses members.. I hope I can help ppl here through my answers. Godbless!
