anyone know any good online resources?

I would start Dacia with pub med central or cinahl as databases and type in what you are looking for precisely. You probably need journals articles, case histories etc. I am sure a good mental health textbook will help you out. Let me know if that throws any light on to the subject.

Cheers.

Well, if you want to present a packaged presentation, getting online info may work, but that's not my way of teaching. I like to have a group relate personally to the subject. Who hasn't been stressed/depressed?

So if you could do an innovative visualization exercise, (you may have some experience with eyes closed ones, wherein people imagine themselves in a setting in which they create and like their surroundings, then suggest they remember a time when something stressful occurred, how they resolved it, or if they became depressed and didn't handle it, what helped to relieve the depression, then suggest that they imagine/visualize that it has been resolved, and they are comfortable and unstressed, and when they're ready, open their eyes).

Invite sharing of their experience during the exercise (don't let smart alecs push your "buttons" when they say they fell asleep or couldn't relate, ask what they might have gotten if they had done the exercise as instructed) then steer the discussion toward interaction methods with stressed/depressed patients that worked for you and write what was effective regarding cognitive intention to self sooth..... If emotions like crying occur, it's best to praise the participant for being able to work on their stuff and share it.......

I've done that type of thing with students in childbirth preparation classes to de-condition them regarding earlier reactions/anticipation to pain, so I could then help them build better conditioning for handling pain. That seems to motivate them to learn and practice the techniques.....

It seems the person who assigned the session wants to know something about your knowledge and confidence regarding common situations.

Prev. post was great. Additionally you might want to use the handouts about stress and depression that are available and review them with the patients. One of the biggest stressors I have found is that people don't know how to explain to others about their stress reactions. De-conditioning and learning to discuss are great to decrease stress in all of us.

Might even help you de-stress about this.:wink2:
