Hi every one
I am in a situation, I am a new grad LPN, just found one job I execpted it, but after
I execpted a job offer, they gave me a contract to sign, stating that they will give me 240 hours of
orientation and I have to work for them for 2 years. If for any reason I leave before that I have to
pay them $5000 plus legal fees. Any advice what should I do?

If you plan on working for the company for two years than I don't see a problem with signing the contract. Companies invest a lot of time and money in training new graduates so I am sure they want to ensure that they get a return on their investment. I signed a contract for both my LPN and RN new graduate positions and I did not have a problem because i planned to work for the company long term. If you donot plan on working for the company long term then I do not recommend sign it.

How badly do you want the job?

Tough one, because you don't know what can happen even if your positive you'd want to stay with the company. Any way to get the contract amended to at least make exception for personal injury, illness etc....?? However with the current state of the job market you might have to hedge your bets..
if your an lpn what would your pay be. around here lpns can start around 16 dollars so 5000 would be around 2 months in wages BEFORE taxes......

I would not sign. As someone else mentioned, you never know what life has in mind for you down the road. Something could come up with you or a family member's health, your spouse could be transferred, anything unforseen.
Weigh all the options. See if something better isn't on the horizon, even in the distance. I know the economy and job situation is bad. (took me 14 months to find the RIGHT job and I have over 30 years of experience)
Good Luck. Let us know what you decide.
