so i'm planning to move to GA because i can't find a job here in CA (i'm a new grad by the way). And I want to know if i can apply there even though i only have CARN license while waiting for my GA license? is it possible?! job market for new grad here in CA is so bad right now.... please help me!! thanks!

Understand Georgia pays about half what California pays. Average pay for a new-grad is 18.00-19.00/hr (give and take). Even with experience 25.00-30.00 is a tough sell in the Atlanta area. Pay is even worse in the rural areas of the state.

That's why I'm out here in Sacramento. 52.00/hr is much more desirable not to mention nurse:patient ratios are better.

Have you tried temp agencies? I mean I love Atlanta but I come out here 13-weeks @ a time to make ends meet. I took 5 months off last year and made more than if I were full time as a staff nurse back home.

Back to your question: Reciprocity is pretty easy. I don't think that you can work as an RN without license in-hand. Might want to have it before you go.

Good luck.

hi emeregencnrse! thanks for the reply.. i'm losing hope already... i tried agencies but they turned me down.. they told me that they are looking for Experienced Nurses right now... sucks right... im at SOCAL by the way and job market here is so bad!

op: get your license first. it is possible to hold two nursing licenses. also, look at texas. facilities in texas seem to be hiring new grads in droves. gl!

The market is saturated everywhere. You need to check out the places people dont always look firs such as LTAC's. You may want to investigate jobs nationally before you make a move and possibly be ready to go elsewhere

what cities?

Although I'm sure it's much better than Cali, the job prospects here in GA are not that great for new grads. I know many grads that graduated in May with me and still do not have a job. GBON is VERY slow in regards to licensing so I would suggest applying first. BTW- I'm a new grad and make 23/hr and that seems to be about norm in the Atlanta and metro area. Good luck!

The prospects here in Augusta (2 hours east of Atlanta) are good, best opportunities for new grads is the Veterans Administration hospitals (yes we have two). Good luck, we need all the male nurses we can get here.

thanks for the reply everyone!!! appreciate it!! :yeah:
