Need some good summer reads!

Hi!

Just finished nursing school yesterday! I'm so excited to be finished and to hopefully get some semblance of a life back. :loveya: I love reading, and I am really glad to have the free time to read something other than textbooks and journal articles. Can anyone suggest some fun books for the summer? I would like to get my hands on something with a medical or nursing focus, but that's got more of a humorous or light feel to it. Thanks for any suggestions and happy summer!

Personally, I was going to start the Twilight series this summer before I start nursing school in the fall. I wanna know what all the hype is about! lol (:

Congrats on finishing school, btw!:yeah:

If you have any interest in psych or drug/alcohol rehab type nursing, I'd suggest " The Dirt," by Motley Crue, "Tommyland," by Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx's "Heroin Diaries." All three books are of the "R" rated type, but so incredibly fascinating.

Erin,

Have you read any of Echo Heron's books? I thought they were all great - written from a nurse's perspective, humorous and light with an occasional moment of heartbreak.

Favorite "medical" book I have ever read was Stiff - The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. Hillarious:yeah:

if you want a really good laugh, check out the books by Jen Lancaster-she rocks, and they would be perfect for a light, girly read. Enjoy!!!

I agree with roosmom, Echo is awesome, I have them all and have read them all a few times! I am waiting fir her to finally write more!

I swear by this book http://www.amazon.com/Bronze-Horseman-Paullina-Simons/dp/0061031127, if you decide to read it it also has second and third part,I dont know anyone who didnt like this book.

I would read

"The Host" by Stephanie Meyer, great book

"The Lovely Bones" also an excellent book

"Elsewhere" was a young adult book but i found it to be a very good book, it deals with the death of a 16 yr old girl who was in an MVA

I just finished the last of the "Shopaholic" books. They were the most fun (I know bad grammer) books I've read in a long time. They were a real enjoyable read.

I've gotten into the whole paranormal romance thing, some like and some don't ;)

Para romance: try J.R. Wards, the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series or Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series

Para but not a whole lot of romance: Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels (its what HBO's True Blood series is based on) and I love Kim Harrison's books

Hope this will help keep you entertained, even though it's not medically/nursing related:)

I absolutely loved:

Life of Pi

The Secret Life of Bees (but don't bother with the movie)

I'd also recommend:

The Other Boyleyn Girl

Water for Elephants

The Kite Runner

Right now, I am enjoying:

The Brief and Wondorous Life of Oscar Wao

Also, I applaud you for actually being interested in reading anything at all. I graduated in December, and I STILL cannot bring myself to buy a book. Instead, I have been downloading audiobooks to my iPod and listening when I walk.
