Need $ fast to apy for all the Pre-nursing stuff!

Hi guys,

Well I'm in for January 2006 and I'm thrilled.

Orientation is at Purdue Calumet on Nov 17th.

The lsit of things I have to buy and take care of even BEFORE school starts is HUGE! I have some savings but a lot of my money is tied up.

I have filled out the Aid forms and scholarship forms for tuition in January BUT WHERE CAN I GET MONEY TO PAY FOR THE STUFF I NEED BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS!

Anybody know of any oragnizations that will float pre-aid to an admitted nursing student to help pay for tests, doctor's visits, lab tests, extra vaccination, uniforms, badges, Re-cert training in CPR, PDA and a few books we need pre-program?

Anyone! HELP!

Our books are quoted at $1200 also. In orientation, they did say that included the clinical kit and uniforms though. I got a private student loan because I won't get regular financal aid until after I need some of my expenses paid for. I don't know what your credit is like, but American General will give a loan to anyone. You can pre-pay it at no penalty too.

Yeah, ours did not include the uniform but did include RN notes, and other stuff. Will let ya know when I pick them up.

I just came from orientation and our books were quoted as $1000. But this is a one time deal. The books are for all 4 semesters. (Actually, they said that was about 95% of the books we'll need.)

The estimated total cost for everything for the 4 semesters is $8700.

I applied for the loan at American General.

Oops! I need to pay more attention. Books + skills kit are $1200 in the first semester. 2nd semester, books are $331. 3rd semester, books are $131 and 4th semester, books are $134. Hmm...that's not quite 95% of book costs up front like they said, now is it?:uhoh21:

Does American General base loans on whether or not you are credit worthy? My credit stinks, so I know if it's based on your credit history I wouldn't be approved. Any idea what the interest rate is?:rolleyes:

Depending on your credit score, they will pretty much approve anyone. The only catch is sometimes they want collateral such as a paid off car title. I applied once before and they wanted that, but I said no. Then recently, because my credit score was up, they approved me with out the collateral. The interest rate is not very good, but in a pinch, it's waaaaaaaaaaay better than pawning your car title at these title loan places. Their interst rates are over 300%. You get a loan of $200 for 2 weeks at check advance places and pay $50-$75 for it. At American General, you can get a loan for like 30%. That is still pretty bad, but at least you get a year to pay it off, rather than just two weeks. For a title loan, you only have one month to pay back and you could get say $500 and you'd pay $110 in interest.

You have to take them $610 in one month or pay $110 every month until you get $610 to give them at once. I plan on paying American General back in January after I get my financial aid refund. There is no pre-pay fee so it's better than the other options I had. Just remember, if you don't have perfect credit, you won't be able to get great rates. ( I'm working on this problem though). Hope this helps.
