Need an alternative to the College Algebra!

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I am currently in the UTA RN-BSN program and i just found out that I need College Algebra! frustrating because i have had my transcript reviewed by several schools and all of them did not need me to take algebra as i already had statistic. FRUSTRATED!!! I know that UTA offer 2 types of algebra which is 1302 and 1301. I believe 1301 is a new course which is supposed to apply math to real life situation(i believe, don't quote me on this) and the typical 1302 college algebra. I already heard horror stories of the 1302 course which is why i am not planning on taking this with UTA. Do you know any other schools that offer college algebra online that are easier or at least doable or an online school that does not have a proctored math course. Thank you in advance.

Would love to know the same! I've read on these threads that the academic advisors aren't giving consistent information on the ability to take math 1301 rather than 1302 or what class is taken as a transfer etc...have you tried to ask your academic advisor?

I am very frustrated with the fact that both college algebra and statistics are required. I have stats already but now have to take the algebra. It's really ridiculous! Not sure why people aren't throwing a fit and complaining, maybe something would get changed!

Those academic advisors are USELESS!!! they are inconsistent and dry! they don't go above and beyond for you... Simply don't care. I have complained about the course numerous times and even went to the math director etc... to no avail. :sniff:

I am currently taking 1301 through my local community college online. It is 8 weeks long and I also made sure I could do MSN later with it. They reassured me that I can. Additionally, I had to get supervisor approval to take the 1301 through my CC instead of taking theirs. I fought for it because it was so short in length and it worked well with the rest of my nursing courses so I could graduate this upcoming May. It is super easy and doable with all tests online. I dont know what I would have done with a super hard class overlapping with research that I start in a week! Good luck!

I was enrolled in UTA Algebra, when the book arrived and when the class opened early I realized this was not a class I would do well in online. I dropped the class before it started, so it will not show on my transcript as 'dropped', and I am taking the math requirements at a local school. After viewing the 'instruction' that was provided online, and noting errors in the instructors speaking and what she was writing, and reading others input on how horrid this class was I am happy that I have chosen the alternative path. It seems the electives and pre-reqs are more work than the nursing classes!

What is the community college you took 1301 called? What is the level of difficulty? How is the course load and the test? I will definetly look into the course. Thank you in advance.

take 1301, do yourself a favor! I'm 2/3 of the way through, and have an A. I was going to fail out of 1302 and had to drop. I then found out this was an option and am so glad i did, because I feel like this class saved me! definitely go for the 1301!

Can you elaborate more on how this class is? How doable is this course for a person who sucks in math, is the test proctored, what are the topics discussed/taught, did you take this with another course, how is this different than college algebra 1302, who is the teacher you took, and did you take the 8 or the 15 weeks course? any extra info will help me tremendously as i am debating whether to take college algebra at a community college or take the 1301. If you want you can PM me. Thank you! (Sorry for all the questions)

I took College Mathematics at SUNY Empire State College, completely online, no proctored exams

and completely manageable. I graduated from UTA in December and all you need is a math course that is

at the college level, it does NOT have to be algebra. The course is pricey but well worth the money I

spent for a piece of mind that I would pass. Good luck. No problems transferring the credit to UTA either.

I am currently taking College Algebra thru Dallas Community College online. The tests are not proctored or timed and you get 2 chances at taking tests or quizzes and 3 chances to take the finals. There are practice homework sessions which you can take over and over. The class is taught thru mymathlab.com. I heard about UTA Math classes and decided to take this option. Hope this helps.
