I really want to do nursing but if i dont get into nursing school what other plan B career choice can i have to fall back on? I am close to 40 and dont want to waste more time and i really need help in making this decision!!! Please help!
I just got my letter from NIU and i got waitlisted for spring semester!! Not sure if my name will even get to the top of the list for acceptance plus i cant wait till spring to start at NIU because its a 2-1/2 year program and it will be 2016 when i graduate! I dont know what to do. I made the mistake of not applying anywhere else because i really thought i had a good chance here. Now i am looking into Olivet Nazarene, and Resurrection university for their 16 month programs for spring admissions and that would end a year earlier than NIU. Problem is NIU does not require the full one year of Anatomy n Physiology so i took the one semester combined course. All other universities require the one year in depth course so i will be doing that this summer. What can i do to increase my chances of being accepted?
Are there any other schools than the ones i mentioned that i should be looking at in Chicagoland for BSN nursing?

If becoming a nurse is your passion, then why settle for plan B? You are doing to regret it later and wished you had followed your dreams. I suggest taking the summer and getting any other pre reqs done for some of the other programs that you have mentioned. This time, apply to multiple programs, that way you don't put all your eggs in one basket. Try and get as many pre reqs done as well. Many schools look at how much time you can dedicate just to nursing courses. I wish you all the best.

I waited on a list for 1.5 years when I got my RN. It's pretty standard these days.
Best of luck!

If nursing is truly your passion you will push forward with it. I have two women in their early 50's in my cohort. They couldn't imagine doing anything else.

If you want to do nursing, then wait it out and do it. Yes you be older than 40 when you graduate. But if you do plan B, are unhappy with it & then decide to try nursing again, you will be even older & graduate even later. There are plenty of people much older than you who have done it. I would look into other schools as well (google Illinois nursing schools) because I really don't believe in applying to just one school.
Thanks everyone for your inputs!!
Healthcare is my passion. Nursing or any other realted healthcare field where i can make a difference in peoples lives is my passion.

Hi gonnaB37nursedoc,
You said you got waitlisted at NIU nursing program. May I ask what your overall GPA and pre req GPA? I am currently applying buy not sure if my overall GPA of 3.09 would qualify me.
