Hello to my all fellow Filipino Nurses... I need some advice for the preparation of CGFNS Examinaion that I will be taking next year for the month of March 14, 2007. Is it really recommended to take a review on review centers/ apply on review centers? specifically the Comprehensive Review + Final review (1month) before the Exam? I'm planning to review on RA Gapuz Review Center by next year on Cebu City cause there are lots of feedback that RA Gapuz is a Good Review Center when it comes on preparing for CGFNS Exam and others..
On the other hand, i also have 3 books which are Lippincott's Review for NCLEX-RN, Kaplan NCLEX-RN (2004-2005 Edition), and Jaypee's Comprehensive Review for CGFNS, can i use this for CGFNS Reference/ preparation? Which is better i'll study/ prepare by my own and just take the Final Coaching Reviews? or Simply Take the Comprehensive Review + Final review (1month) on RA GAPUZ Review Center?
By the way i'm from Zamboanga City so far St. Louis Review Center is the only center here which offers review for CGFNS. Is St. Louis Review Center also a good choice? Any Advice/ Feedback will be appreciated, Thanks...

I would recommend deciding on a handful of states now for consideration and see if any one of them requires CGFNS Certification for initial licensure and if not even one of them does (most likely) I would prob. cancel my order for the service and have the fees applied to one of their other services as all foreign-educated nurses will go through at least one of them one way or the other anyway.
March is still a long way. Most foreign RNs BTW shun away from States that still requires CGFNS certification, hence, the reason for the current popularity of NM and VT and CES-only states such as NJ, Fl, AZ, NV, IL, etc...

Note that it is dated Sept 2006 but always double check w/ your respective State BON website for any changes. And they change quite often. The last table before this one was dated 2005 and a lot of changes happened from that time until now and some are still referring to that table before.
After initially reviewing that table. I am not sure about it's accuracy. That is why we always say here to check your respective State BON/BRN's official website.
Two things I noticed are the req'ts for NM and VT. These two State BON has been evaluating transcripts of foreign-educated nurses on their own for quite some time, hence, their current popularity.
As you can see, it states there that transcripts can be directly given to them for evaluation.
*Note also that in NM's instructions - they will actually charge you an additional $50 to have them evaluate that transcript and that if a foreign-nurse who already have a CGFNS Certification may wish to submit that and they will accept that in lieu for their own evaluation. VT's instructions are much clearer that you only need to submit the transcripts to them. Period.
That table also has a remark under saying that it is the best information that CGFNS have and therefore they also do not guarantee 100% accuracy. Best way really is to go to your State BON/BRN's website and download their actual application form and read their instructions for foreign-educated nurses.

I think this must be brought to CGFNS' attention because although they have a disclaimer, it may mislead many(and many rely on their info). They say, "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure",so I strongly suggest they do their best to update the information(considering the fact that they stated it is the best information that they have as of September 2006, which is very recent I should say).
The disclaimer is there for that exact reason; Boards of Nursing are always changing requirements and it is always best to check directly with them. It is not the responsiblity of CGFNS to keep up with every change coming out. They actually have nothing to do with the Boards of Nursing in the first place, they are under contract with the US goevernment, not any states.
Each state is free to set their own requirements for licensure.
