I'm an lvn in California and I would like to get in an rn program. I have a job that I work at a rural health clinic and have a decent pay and good benefits. I'm also the only one working in my family. Because of this I would like to try a distance learning or on-line program. My only fear is that these types of programs will not give me the practical experience on skills that I have gotten rusty at. Do any of these programs have places you can go to practice skills? Thanks! Any and all advise, info, and opinions will and are greatly appreciated!

The largest distance LVN-to-RN program represented on these boards is Excelsior College, but Excelsior is not currently accepted by the California BRN. You might check the BRN website to find any approved programs which offer a portion of their program via distance education. Good luck!

I did most of my LPN using distance education, provided by our comunity collage we had students from canada and Idaho ND, I am from MN I did all my Co Req and Pre reqs for my RN this way as well, all I have left is clinicals and one class. I work Full time at a LTC Facility, Check with a Community College. They offer lots of alternitives. My First year in the the LPN Program I worked nights and went to school during the day.... It is doable.

Hi delee99,
Hello to you. Recently I failed out of AAS nursing program at community college in NYC. I have since applied to another school for their LPN program.
I just saw your posting about doing most of your LPN courses online and I am interested in information about your school. When I was in school I placed all my eggs in one basket,so to speak. So, although I have applied to another school I am trying to have a back up plan. The school I applied to, program starts in January and the entrance exam is in October.
Thanks for the info
Our Community College is Open enrollment for the LPN Program. we start on Monday here is the link http://www.northlandcollege.edu/ I had to do all my basic nursing classes at the campus but the A&P1 and a&P2 Ect. i did on line.
Actualy It is possible to do the LPN online except for the Clinicals you whould have to live in Thief River Falls, Bemidji or East Grand Forks.
All In Minnesota.
PM me if you have any Questions.

Excelsior requires that one pass a three day exam, the CPNE.
Be sure your state accepts Excelsior. CA decidedly won't.
Thanks! Would State of Illinois allow me to sit for NCLEX-RN and have a license in the state if I do distance learning? I know Excelsior is not acceptable by my state.

illinois does not either.
application instructions for licensure specifically exclude excelsior college:

regents external degree program is an unapproved nursing education
program in the state of illinois due to the fact that it does not have concurrent
theory and clinical components as required by the illinois nurse practice
act. therefore, it is considered to be a correspondence course which is
identified by the act as not meeting the requirements for licensure.

If you are an EC grad, you can get licensed in Illinois after 2 years of full-time RN practice in another state. A few other states have similar requirements.
