I am such a klutz!! :imbar My cat was getting ready to puke all over my Nursing books, so I jumped up, grabbed him and ran for the door! Unfortuneatly, I tripped over my daughter's shoes! I managed to keep my balance for about 3 ft. then I slipped and fell, sliding about 4 ft. to the door.

The cat is fine, I however, managed to give myself rug burns!! I have two on top of my left foot. One of which is in the bend of my ankle, the other one [ on the same foot, is on the arch [top]. On my right foot, I have a burn that matches the arch burn on my left foot. I also burned both knees. I was wearing blue jeans so my knees aren't as bad as my feet! :imbar

Questions: :D How would you treat a pt. who came to your office/ED? I should also note that the ones on the left are bleeding [oozing] and there is some plasm leakage too. The rt. one isn't as bad.

Just your typical klutzy SN!! :imbar Who DOES NOT want to see a DR and explain this to him!! [He is young and good looking]

To add insult to injury, my 11 yr. old was up all night puking. He saw the fall/slide and told me that I was OUT!! [i thought I was safe! seeing as how the cat didn't get hurt and DID get outside safely!!

:p :chair:

I already took 2 asprin and it DID NOT help!!

Thanks and Please don't laugh too hard!!

No, definitely not laughing here...OUCH!!! I also have a cat and am a major clutz, so I can empathize.

Keep the wounds clean and open to air if they aren't having too much discharge. You might also get neosporin and put on there.

Don't cleanse with anything except mild soap and h20. Peroxide and alcohol kill the new growing tissues!

You poor sweet thing-THAT's what you call a REAL BAD

NIGHT!!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeowch !!!

Poor baby, you ! :kiss

Have done some silly stuff myself, and continue to, so don't feel bad ! I know those boo boos HURT, too ! Feel for ya !

My advice would have been the same as above.. reshiloh beat me to it !

Soooooooooo... did kitty make it outside in time to vomit, or did you end up with THAT mess on top of everything else?

I can relate. Have snatched up a kitty or two myself in the mad rush to the door when I hear that litttle pukie coming on.... :D

Ok I wont laugh but I bet you will this time next year.:kiss

:chuckle Likely story-we all KNOW that you sustained those rug burns during an especially athletic session of bumping uglies...tee hee...How would you be treated at the doc's office? Well-you'd be the topic of conversation in the back.....(I'm just kidding,ya know)

Oops, sorry for laughing, but the mental pictures were just PRICELESS!

I feel for ya, kiddo.....I have four cats, and am not exactly poetry in motion myself. And I HATE it when they yak all over my stuff. I could see myself doing the very same thing you did. Hope you're feeling better....redshiloh gave you the same advice I would have, but I'd add some ibuprofen, 600 or 800 mg two or three times a day (with food, of course) to help with the soreness and inflammation.

Best of luck.......and next time, let the cat barf wherever she wants!!

I am NOT laughing!! only giggles, 3 giggles came out!!:) I dont know what you can do for your tootsies, but I hope you feel better. I guess if ya dont laugh you cry, and I prefer laughing- but like I said I did not laugh, just 3 giggles!!!!;)

OK being practical here, wash with soap and water, rinse, pat dry. Neosporin/Bacitracin whatever 3abx ointment WITH lidocaine.

Then if you have to work then get some of those HUGE no stick bandaids and cover the rug burns.

I tried aloe vera plant on a friction burn and it helped a lot, so maybe an ointment with aloe, 3abx and lidocaine....is there such a thing?

UMMM... what exactly is "3abx"? I don't have lidocaine... I do have triple antibiotic ointment from when my feet swelled up from the allergic reaction to a tetorifice shot. These missed the ulcer scars by less than an inch. These hurt as much as those did. I finally had to take a Lortab!!

I need to get the big pads because my Nursing shoes will definately rub the burns!!

I am glad that I gave a good mental picture! If I had read it I probably would have done this: :rotfl:

I have 5 cats! However, the Nursing books are much more important than me right now. We simply can't afford to buy new ones. NEVER a dull moment when Klutzy Karen is around!! :D Just hope I don't do anything this klutzy during Clinicals!! I think if I did, I would just sink though the floor!!

God Bless You all for being so kind.....giggling and laughing is totally understandable. I just hope my clinical instructor has as good a sense of humor as you all do!!

Just remember, when school starts getting to you, come back here and read about me...and laugh some more! :D :D :D

I can sympathize. A few years ago, my husband and I walked to the ice cream store with the kids on a hot summer's day (it is currently -25 here in canada... 'nuff said). On the way home, we decided to race, boys against the girls with the kids on our shoulders (yes, I know - stupid). Well, I tripped when we were winning! Couldn't put my hands out because I had to make sure my little girl stayed up on my shoulders and did not come in contact with the ground. I skid across the sidewalk until I slowed down enough to put one elbow to the ground. After I stopped, I was asking my husband over and over if my little girl had touched the ground. She was fine, not a scrape on her. I had road rash from the tops of both feet (was wearing sandals and shorts) to the tops of my shins, along with a bit of road rash on my one elbow. Not a pretty sight. Didn't have time to feel the pain though, my husband and son do not do well with the sight of blood... I had to get them in the house and sitting down... both were light-headed. Took a long time to heal, very painful. Your nursing shoes will rub on the tops... use something to reduce the friction. Air dry as much as possible. Otherwise, just suffer through it... unfortunately.

As for the cat. Whenever my cat would start making that noise (the one you KNOW means they are going to vomit), I would pick him up and run for the bathroom (the only room in the house without carpet, other than the kitchen and that is the last place I want a sick cat!). After doing this a half dozen times, the cat learned to run for the bathroom all by himself! What a great break for me. So hopefully, you won't have to risk rug burn too many more times before the cat is trained.

Karen: I was just reading the latest responses to your thread when my DH came to me and asked me if his lower lip was swollen, which it is. Turns out he just walked into the bathroom door.:chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

I'm looking forward to hearing more "Klutzy Karen" stories from clinicals.;)

OUCH...I can completely sympathize with you, being a total klutz myself....

the other day in downtown Salem (OR) I was getting out of my husbands car - and the parking sucks so we were near another car - so I couldnt open the door very far - with the leaves on the ground (my lame excuse) I fell and tripped skinning my knees and ankle....it's starting to heal....

I've been using neosporin and BIG non stick bandaids....

I remember one time I used Nair on my legs and (being really fair skinned) I got in the shower and remember thinking OMG is this what it is supposed to do - because my skin was literally peeling off as I was showering....I got out of the shower and well, I didnt have any hair - but my legs were red, red, red.....boy did they hurt - I couldnt put pants on and had to wear the loosest skirt I could find....

I used Aloe Vera Gel all over them and the next day they were almost better....it felt great though - soothing and cooling....

Hope you get better soon....with no more hurling kitties.... :)
