Need advice for next step in Nursing

Published

Sorta embaressed to post this, but I think I really screwed up. I've taken Anatomy and Physiology 1 but made the freshman mistake and loaded on too many classes and got a D. B+ in all other prereqs but I haven't taken Micro or Nutr yet. Classes were already full to take Anatomy and Physiology 1 again so I took Anatomy and Physiology 2 thinking that I could do better. Got an F. I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 again its going fairly well but I missed a test due to a death in the family and my professor won't allow me to make it up(only gives 4 exams). So my average right now is about a C. I want to transfer into a nursing program but most want C+ or better on at least the 2nd try. What should I do? Please help?

wow i guess i'm the only that's ever been in this situation huh?

There are lots of people who have backed themselves in a corner failing A&P first time around. Getting a C the second time isn't likely to cut it and failing A&P 2 is pretty bad too.

I think you should appeal the instructor's rule not to allow you to take the exam. I'm assuming you can prove the death in the family, so you should take that to the head of the science department or the dean of student services. You really have to do better than a C your second time around in A&P. And shoot for an A in A&P 2 as well. These are cornerstone classes.

Good luck,

You definitely need to speak to the professor and if necessary, the chairperson of the biology department if he doesn't allow you to take that missing exam. Be prepared though.

Hope you also looked into your prospective program's retake policy? I ask this because one ADN program I was looking into allows only one prerequisite to be retaken. If the program wants a minimum of C+ in the prerequisites, then you need to make sure you make at least that. Unfortunately, a C is not making their minimum.

All is not lot though. The LPN programs are more forgiving and once you get through that program and prove yourself you could bridge over to RN. It's worth talking to an LPN director about.

Just an idea.

Wow we Are in the same situation I got an f in chemistry re took it and got a B I failed anatomy and got an F now I am re taking it next semester I am planning on getting an A and taking other science classes like physics and orgAnic chem to make up for the bad grades you should see how strict it is to apply to your nursing program and try your best not to fail again.

I do not know what state you all are from, but here in CA, if you repeat ANY of your science courses, it counts against you. Sorry to be a downer, but with the nursing programs being so impacted, getting the best grade the first time around is the key! Once you hit the nursing program, A&P is vital to know frontward and backward.... it is a straight foundation class that will be built on in the nursing program

I would of taken an incomplete for A&P due to the death in your family, and would defiently encourage you to talk to the head of the biology dept about getting your grade changed ASAP!

Best of luck to you

cookie just a quick note to let you know I cant reply to your PM - I guess I dont have enuf posts yet (can someone tell me how that works). check the original thread (stoneybrook) I'll answer there later

I pulled in hard and 2 A's on my last two exams. Took the final today, maybe its enough to get a B. I figured since it counts against me, I may just go to Boces LPN program and look for a bridge program. No luck with the directors either. Thanks you guys every little piece of advice helps
