I give a lot of credit to those students who apply for accelerated program.I could never do it. I rather finish nursing in 4 years, even 4 years are not enough to learn and remember most things. Even now,I feel like I don't have enough time to prepare for tests, assignments, projects. I can only imagine how hard my life could have been if i was in the accelerated program. Since you changed from nursing to sociology ( and graduated ), I am assuming you don't remember a lot from those pre-nursing classes. If you find some extra time review the anatomy book ( the major things). It really helps.
I just have to say, if you believe in yourself , you are a quick learner, can manage time, and you get more things done when you are under pressure...GO FOR IT. I wish you all the best.
Hello,
Have you thought about the BSN traditional program? In some areas if you have all your pre-reqs it only takes two years. I had a Bachelor of Biology degree before I went into nursing school. I had all my pre-reqs so I only had to take two years of nursing classes I came in as a junior. I thought about the accelerated which was 14 months but I knew that I had a better chance of finishing not going so fast. Also the GPA in the traditional was a little lower than the accelerated. The accelerated class took their 1st summer course with the traditional. Just a thought. Wish you luck.
Hey guys!I have just recently graduated with a BA in Sociology. Before becoming a Sociology major I was a Pre-Nursing major, I didn't do that well in Anatomy & Physiology, I got a C and B, but did well in Chemistry and Microbiology, but I also couldn't pass the TEAS well it was the NET some years ago. The GPA to get into the program was a 2.8 and I only had like a 3.0, while most had 3.5 and above. Because of these issuses I decided to change my major and apply for an accelerated Nursing Program once I got my degree. Well now that I have obtained my degree, I am anxious to start a nursing program, i took the TEAS in December and passed it (Finally!). Now I am wondering should I try to apply in September to an ADN program since I have all the pre-reqs or should I wait til January and apply to a very competitive Accerelerated program. Since the Age of 6 I can remember wanting to be a nurse and it just seems like there are so many hurdles for me. I just feel like the accelerated program will be another hurdle being that my GPA is only now a 3.2. Just wanted a little advice on what road you'all think I should take.
Thank You!
I had the same problem of getting into a school becasue of my lower GPA in prereqs then the rest of the candidates. I opted into going to a private school to get my RN. I would apply TO EVERY single program I can and go into which ever takes you first. Those pre reqs expire in most school after 5 years and believe me it goes by fast! good luck!
