Need Advice About Hca Hospitals In Florida

Published

has anyone ever worked for a hca facility in florida. i need your experience and advice, and the starting salary for a new grad.

Not in FL, but HCA is many places, and they are no good from what I"ve heard and seen. They are for profit. I know where I live the majority of the hospitals are HCA; but nobody wants to work for them, or get care from them, unless they have no other choices.

They do pay better than others; however, you will likely have the workload of at least two nurses.

I have an HCA 15 miles from my home - would make sense to work there. Not me!! I will be driving 45 minutes to work instead. I refuse to work for a company that does not promote quality in their work ethic and atmosphere. I have been there as a pt as well as my husband and never again - an hour and 20 minutes to have a call light answered is not acceptable and that is not an exaggeration (sp). During clinicals I found that the nurses did not seem happy and did not communicate well together on the wards.

Now, I have to say that this may not be the case in every HCA - this is just what I have personally observed. However, while in the community speaking with others I hear the same sad stories.

I have worked for two different HCA facilities, one in Louisiana and one in Florida. I will never make that mistake again! On step down I had 6 pts with no aide and mgt turned a blind eye to the fact that we did not have time to provide some of the most basic pt care. I feared for my license every time I went to work!

I will be the one to be contrary, but I work at a Florida HCA facility and love it. We're small enough to know almost everyone, and our staffing ratios are average. Also, the for-profit/non-profit tends to be a myth. Google for/non profit hospitals and you'll discover that the non-profits make WAY more money than the for-profits - they just have to invest it back into the infrastructure, either through salary or interior design. I think you love a job for the management and your staff. Mine's great. To each their own.

:nurse:Hi,

I just started a new job as a CNA at Bayonet Point in Hudson fl. I'm just wondering if this is the same Hospital your talking about. I am hearing what seems to be all bad things about HCA hosptals, not things you really want to hear when about to start for the company, but can't seem to help reading it. I am hoping to find someone who can talk positivly about there experiance at well Bayonet or HCA facilities. Thank you. Amanda

I work at an HCA hospital in Georgia. I have great nurse to patient ratio 3-5 (5 max!), great resources, my post op surgery unit is less than 2 years old and has many great amenities for the nursing and patients.

The 401k is great, and the Insurance is reasonable. Great shift diffs, and plenty of opportunities to grow and learn as a nurse.

we are one of the best cardiac hospitals in the state.

I have worked for a not for profit hospital, and HATED it.

Hi thanks for a quick reply! It is really discouraging to begin a new job when so many have had bad experiences, I really do not understand what HCA means, though I should after a 9 hr orriantation yesturday and another 9 today, does it mean same owners? anyhow I'm just thankful for the job, I have no previous experiance, and I will go into it with a positive attitude. I work in Med Tele. T?hanks for the positive view! good luck neighbor:heartbeat
