I have a bachelor's degree in business. I'm starting to take my pre-reqs to try and get into some type of nursing or rad tech program. I signed up for an Anatomy and Physiology class. Class start April 7th. Class is on Monday night and all day on Saturday for labs. I just found out I need surgery and that will be on April 17th (a Thursday). There's no way I'm going to be able to go the lab two days after my surgery. I could miss the lab (I don't plan on missing anymore than one lab) or just attend half the lab.
For those who have taken A&P do you think you could have missed one lab and still have done well in the class?? According to the syllabus from last semester the lab that I'll be missing is a free study. There's no dissection.
I'm taking 10 days off of work. I really don't know if I'll even be 100 percent in order to do well in the class. I could put the class off till next term. However, I already got the book off line and can't return it (only $80).
I don't know what to do. Part of me wants to get going with my pre-reqs. The other part of me knows I need time to heal.
Opinions? Comments? Suggestions??

Depends on the class. Personally, we RARELY did anything worthwhile in our labs. We looked at a couple things and most were optional and not worth points and rarely were for more than just review. You should try to get in touch with the instructor and ask what the labs will be like, how you can make up missed assignments or lectures, etc. We usually only have lecture during our labs but I know not all classes are that way.
Good luck!!!

Hi. Talk to the teacher, explain your situation, and see what he/she says. I once took a week long vacation during A and P and got an A on the test when I got back by studying hard, listening to the A and P lectures on itunes (Dr. Cizadlo), and e-mailing in my assignments. However, I had instructor support/consent.
Good luck with everything.

When I took A&P 1 last semester the lab was pretty useless. All we did was a 10 point quiz and dissections or general labs. It all really depends on the lab and your professor but I am sure if you talk to your professor he/she will understand and let you make up the work. Usually the first lab session is nothing more than introductions and basic lab rules. I highly doubt you will do anything anatomy related; at least that was the case in my class.
Good luck..

My first lab for A&P 1 consisted of learning the anatomical/directional terms. It wasn't even anything worth being in the lab for. As the other posters have said, contact your professor and tell them what's happening, I'm sure they'll be able to excuse you from one or two labs with very little fuss. :nuke:

i missed about two labs in AP1 and ended up with a high B. i wouldve gotten an A but i didnt do homework so that burst my bubble. anyways, it all depends on how your teacher grades you on. you have a legitimate reason to miss one lab, so dont even sweat it. word of advice tho, do your homework.
