Need A & P!

Published

I am in my 3rd semester of pre-req's and each semester I have been trying to register for an A&P I class. This last attempt I made sure I got up bright and early on the day of registration (registration began at 7:30 am, and I was up with fingers poised on the computer keys at 7:01), only to be met with some severe technical glitches with the online registration process. I won't even go into it but suffice to say by the time I was finally able to log-in all the A & P classes were snatched up. We're talking a matter of an hour here! I was so angry but I realized that complaining to the college would be a waste of time. The crazy thing about this is that the college only offers 5 A&P I classes per term yet there were a total of 12 A&P II classes. WTF?

Most of my other classes have been taken care of (courtesy of a previous degree), but without that A&P I I'm stuck here. I'm taking fluff courses right now just so I can stay enrolled in the college while I wait my turn to vie for one of those 5 classes again next fall. Grrrr...:angryfire

What are my options? Are there online possiblities here? Normally I wouldn't worry so much but I've waited 25 years to start nursing school. I've been at home raising my family and am now finally able to realize my dream of becomming a nurse but if this keeps up I'll be 60 years old by the time I graduate. I'm 47 now!

I'm sorry to sound so whiney and I do realize that I'm probably not alone but what the heck does a girl have to do to take an A&P class? LOL!

Thanks for letting me vent. Sigh.

One other suggestion: Go speak to the professors now and stay in touch throughout the semester. You may find that helpful in getting a slot next semester.

I actually had an anatomy teacher call me at the start of this fall semester and tell me that he was holding a spot for me since he knew that I was provisionally admitted to nursing school dependent on completing my prerequisites.

I agree. Contact the professor that is teaching the class. The professor may be able to get you into the class. You never will know unless you ask. Explain that you really, really want to take their class. Professor's love motivated students. For my Anatomy class I contacted the professor before the class started asking about add'l study aids and he was extremely helpful. If that fails then get on a waitlist and in the meantime search every nearby college in your area to take the class there instead. Good Luck!

Ya know what i feel your pain i really do. I'm at a very small CC and they only have two A&P classes per semester. Talk about impossible. Got into one last semester and my classes got purged, so i lost it. Then found the online one grabbed it and withdrew for personal reasons. So this semester i played it smart, knowing that my classes would not get purged i grabbed up the online class once again, and waited for everyone elses classses to get purged, sad i know. Anyway so i got online this morning, and both class were open and maybe had one or two people still enrolled in the classes. I jumped on it instantly. Got my classes and am very proud of myself, lol.

What does "purged" mean in regards to classes? I'm guessing that it might mean the class dissappears? Taken out? No longer available? No longer exists? TIA.

It is also hard to get into A&P I at my college. Since my school doesn't have a waitlist, what I did was to recheck the college website a few times a day to see whether an opening occured in the class. Students may register for a class, but decide to drop out a few days before the semester starts. This is how I was able to get into A&P this past fall. A spot opened a few weeks before the semester started, so I immediately registered, and got in. :)

I would recommend talking to the professors. i've never had any trouble getting the classes that i need b/c my financial aid pays for me to have early priority registration. but i've had one of my friends have this problem. most of the time the professors will allow you in the class. they have alot of say so be nice to them and they will be nice to you!!!

I had no idea it was so difficult to get into A&P in some parts of the country. I live in Southern California and it never fills up until the last moment at my college. It's been like that for at least the last couple semesters. There are still spots available, and all the priorities have had their chance to register. This semester they offer 6 classes for A&P 1, and 4 classes for A&P 2. I find other classes like Intermediate Algebra, History, Government, and English 1A fill up faster. Interesting.

I totally understand your frustration. I would show up to class on the first day (each class that would fit in your schedule for that matter) (and take a drop/add permission sheet with you if your school has one). Make it known to the professor that you want to be in the class. Usually people drop or don't show and you can get a professor's signature on the spot to let you in the class.

If that doesn't work...show up the second day. I know it seems silly and pointless, but I personally believe that a lot of the hoop-jumping is about who is more determined...not always who is more qualified.

Sounds like you're qualified. Go show them how stupidly determined you are! Good luck!

For the people that add classes and don't pay they loose their classes and therfore the classes will open back up. The 8th at my school all tuition had to be paid, if not you will get yoru classes dropped. For some reason my finacial aid didn't come in as soon as i had hoped because i transfered from another college and had to change majors for that particular school. Thats why i lost my classes last semester.

R u able to take the class at another college that may be near to your area and transfer the class in? I would be careful with that though because I know the college I was at before I transfered considered you a transfer student if you transfered even one class in. But, being that your a student at there college already that may not be the case. Just a thought.. Hope it helps

I am fortunate that I have 2 good community colleges close that I can choose from if that prob comes up. If I can't find it in one, I look at the other. That is a shame, but good for you you have the other classes under your belt. Yes, that doesn't make any sense having more A&P 2's available. Good luck !!
