Hello all, Just starting a thread here for any applicants to the 2nd Entry Nursing Program for U of T, York, and Mac.
People can:
-ask questions and/or post when they have received an offer of admission or rejection
-share their marks/volunteer experience
-support each other during the super stressful waiting game
-discuss application issues, essay questions, prerequisites, etc.
There was one last year and I found it super helpful to see what others were doing, when offers were going out, and which candidates were selected. It's also a good reference for next year's potential applicants.
For myself, I have applied to U of T, Mac, York, and Dalhousie, with an A- or 3.66 GPA overall and 3.63 in my last 30 credits (10 half courses or 5 whole courses). I do not hold a Bachelor degree, but am in 3rd year at York's Honours BA Psychology, and hold an Associate of Arts from Langara College in BC. I have several years experience volunteering for an inner-city after-school program, for a crisis intervention phone line, and with fundraising.
Last year I was rejected from U of T with 3.53 in the last 30 credits, and only 2 years post-secondary. I had a C+ in one of my reported pre-requisites.
Hope this helps everyone and best of luck to you all!!
Has anyone applied to the Nipissing Scholarly Practioner Program? It's the second entry program based out of a satelite campus in Toronto. I've been offered an interview but haven't heard anyone else mention it... just curious what other people have thought about this one.
I've also been accepted to York and Trent second entry programs. Still waiting to hear from McMaster which is making me really nervous!
Been a silent observer for a while now and I guess I should contribute.
I also got an interview for the Nipissing SPP program! I really only applied to it because it's based in Toronto and I live there but otherwise, I haven't heard anything about it. It's a brand new program with the first class having just graduated this past April so no one really knows much about it. I'm hoping that I won't need to attend Nipissing at all so right now, I've been lazy preparing for the interview and researching about the program.
A little about myself, I'm a male who just graduated with an honours BA from McMaster in Sociology. My cumulative GPA is a B-, last two year GPA is around a B (took a letter of permission course so I can't really calculate this), and final year GPA is a B. I applied to McMaster, Queen's, Western, Toronto, Trent, Nipissing, and Ottawa - all second-entry. Screwed up the application to Ottawa (missed the deadline to send in documents because I applied 6 days before the deadline), accepted to Trent, interview at Nipissing, waitlist at Queen's, waiting to hear back from Mac, Western, Toronto.
Congrats to everyone who's already been accepted/know where they're going and good luck to all those still waiting for responses!
Berty103, we have a group on facebook for Western as well: UWO CTF Nursing Class of 2015 :)
I was also invited to an interview for the SPP program at Nipissing Toronto Campus! Congratulations on securing an interview guys- the program only accepts about 30 people and is very competitive so it is an amazing accomplishment to even be able to say you were granted an interview! I am not going to attend the interview as I have already accepted Western- however, I did do a fair amount of research prior to applying and did talk to a guidance counsellor from the school of nursing about the program. What really drew me to apply to the program was the way it was structured- the courses seem very interesting and focus on holistic health care. You are also assigned a nurse and a family that you 'shadow' while attending the program which seems like a really cool experience. The school also believes that there are 'no teachers and no students' in the sense that they believe both your assigned healthcare professional/mentor and professors learn just as much from you as you learn from them- kind of a neat philosophy. The only thing that deterred me from the program was that the courses are a lot different then a traditional nursing school and the program structure is quite different as well. I am intending on potentially specializing in nursing/doing my masters and I was not sure how other schools would take to Nipissing's learning philosophy, curriculum and courses. With Nipissing's program you are also assigned to one hospital for the entire duration of the program- and therefore do not get the experience like other traditional nursing schools have of trying 6 weeks in geriatrics, 6 weeks in peds, 6 weeks in mental health, etc. I have posted the link to a PDF that might help provide some more information for you! Best of luck! http://www.nipissingu.ca/academics/faculties/applied-professional/school-of-nursing/Documents/Sept-start_Backgrounder_SPP_MAR_2011_000.pdf
