NCLEX Tuesday... Any last advice?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi All!

I've been lurking for NCLEX advice here for a few weeks (and a long-time lurker of nursing school advice for a couple of years). Just graduated magna cum laude from an accelerated ABSN program... Did pretty well in school, but have heard horror stories of people failing NCLEX despite good grades, yadda yadda yadda. I have a dream job lined up contingent on my passing, but know I'll lose it if I fail - typical story, huh?

Our school used Kaplan; I added the Hurst review for content (didn't do 5th day CD, just the lectures and workbook), and have done a few alt format questions from Lippincott. I got Saunders for Christmas but haven't used it much.

Here are my Qbank scores:

Q1 66.7%

Q2 65.3%

Q3 60%

Q4 60%

Q5 56%

Q6 65.5%

Q7 63.8%

Qbank average 61%

Predictor/Diagnostic 65.3%

Priorities 86.7%

Alt Format 34% :dead:

So... What do all you NCLEX geniuses think? I would love and appreciate any last minute advice!! Thank you in advance :inlove:.

Hey, I took it on Tuesday, found out this morning I passed (75Q)!

Do the 35 page guide at least twice (if you don't have it you can search this site for it, I'll see if I can find the thread that has the file attached). There are a few mistakes in it, but overall it's helpful. The mnemonics for isolation precautions are good and I definitely used at least one on the test (wouldn't have gotten it right otherwise, haha).

Also make sure you know your lab values.

Honestly just keep doing questions. A lot of people say just relax the day before but I probably did like 300 questions the day before haha. I was doing NCLEX Mastery, and bought their mock NCLEX and did that as well the day before. Your Kaplan scores look good, so yeah, just keep doing questions.

Good luck!

alot of the content you study will not be on the test, the test kind of tests on your ability on guessing basically. i took the test about 20 days ago and passed with 75. i felt like i was guessing through it. remember to breath ( i had chest pains as soon as i entered the test center because i was so damn nervous)and think very very hard for each question.

as long as you had enough practice you will be fine! good luck!!!!

CONGRATS to both of you!!!! This gives me hope . Thank you!! On to doing a million more Kaplan questions...

I completely agree with this. I was pretty nervous when I walked in, the person checking me in was like it'll be okay (my hands were shaking when I was doing the palm scan), haha. And yeah, a lot of it was guessing, like narrowing down to 2 choices then making an educated guess, while some I definitely knew. Maybe that's why I walked out not sure if I passed or not.

So yeah, don't rush through the questions, read them carefully, good luck to OP!

Relax on Monday (no studying), eat a good breakfast on Tuesday morning and pray!

Thank you for the advice, everyone! Got a 71% on the readiness test today... Just going to go in there and do my best on Tuesday. I will try to relax tomorrow!

Hoping I'll have some good news to post by Thursday (or earlier!).

Thanks again

Well, I took it this morning. Walked out totally feeling like I failed. I still do. Did PVT when I got in my car, got the good pop-up... Just tried PVT again just now, got the good pop up again (~4 hours later), but still feel like it's too soon to believe.

UGH why must they torture us with this wait???

Haha I know. Try it again tomorrow after 8 if you want. Last Tuesday I got the good popup right after, all the way up to when I tried it again over 24 hours later, then I found out I passed on Thursday. I also felt like I failed too.

Good luck! :)

Looks like you passed! Must feel nice to be done! I take my NCLEX this Saturday! I've just been doing uworld. I took the Kaplan readiness exam and got a 64%. What was your overall impression of the exam?

I just found out... I PASSED!!! Oh my goodness, it feels so good to be one of the ones on here who feel so relieved after that horrendous exam. Thank you everyone for your support!!

@Capriinverno, I felt that some questions were easier than Kaplan, but overall I agree with the other posters - that there is no amount of studying you can do to feel 100% comfortable answering questions. There were definitely some about things I hadn't seen since the first day of nursing school. My biggest advice would be to know your priorities like the back of your hand, breathe and focus on each question, and don't neglect first-day-of-clinical stuff. Your readiness score looks good :-).

Good luck!!!

How many questions did you get?
