any nclex takers in october-share study tips

i m taking the exam in oct. oct first week to be exact. anyone taking in oct can share their tips and study plans. lets support each other

Hey All! Just got back from taking NCLEX :stone !!! It stopped at 100 with only two SATA's and a ton of pharm -- which makes me very nervous... everytime the screen went to the next question and it was pharm i felt like i was drowning.... so scared... but i'm crossing my fingers... good luck to the rest of you taking it this month i'll keep you posted to let you know how it goes!

its exactly a week before my nclex. i'm scheduled on october 9 at 9 am hongkong time. i'm doing last minute cram. focused on delegation, prioritization, cohorting, infection control (precautions), fluids and electrolytes, normal values, meds!meds!meds!, positioning, diet, diagnostic exam, solving for dopamine/dobutamine i.v. calculation (ml/hr, mg/kg/min) and of course random fact throwing. will keep you posted guys after the exam. good luck october group, together we all pass!

MrJ just a question about solving dobutamine/dopamine iv calcuation, where did you find some problems?

My test is scheduled for Mon Oct6th. I took the old boards back in 1977 and passed and went on to practice for 12 yrs. I left nursing in 1993 for another career and now am coming back. I have been studying for the last 2 months. I started out using Suzanne's plan with the Saunder's plan and doing the questions. I found that the questions were a little too easy...more the way in which the answers were structured that the answer was very obvious. So then I added Kaplan I have the CD with the Question Trainer. I decided not to pay for the Qbank. I've had the following scores on Qtrainer.

Q1 67

Q2 69

Q3 64

Q4 63

Q5 65

Q6 66

I've read that these scores are pretty much the norm. I went through the Qtrainer thinking I didn't do too bad but then saw my score and was surprised. I reviewed the answers and was a little puzzled at their answers and their rationales. Some I got wrong cuz I didn't know the content. Also their strategies sometimes left me saying what. They contradicted themselves at times.

I've done 3000 - 4000 questions. I really needed to nail down the content since I've been gone for so long. I also used the Linda LaCharity Prioritizaing, Delegation and Assignment. I found this to be very useful.

So now like MrJ I will be following a plan similar to his. Good luck to all those taking the test in October.

Hi everyone, will take nclex-rn this 28th..I just finished 3800 questions. Good luck to all of us. I just focus on Saunder's comprehensive review 4th edition and Saunder's Q & A (finished 1800 questions at the book and finished 2000 questions at the CD). Im planning to finished it before the 8th because I will start the NCSBN review on october 8 up to october 27. My exam date is october 28.

iloveclay -- a majority of the pharm questions on my NCLEX today consisted of herbal drugs like garlic, fever few, ginko, some on diuretics, and antilipemic agents... and that's all I can really remember, but yes mainly asking whats contraindicated, side effects, and proper administration...

Hi guys. I am planning to take my boards sometime this month, and no I have not accumulated the 15 post to see Suzanne's techniques. But it's okay, I've been studying for a lil bit. But yeah keep studying you guys. WE can do this!

As far as studying for the medications, maybe while studying diseases, you can then study the medications that pertains to it. At least you won't feel overwhelmed and you'll be able to identify the meds easily when you practice questions.

So far, I've tried it, and it has worked for me. I started with GI diseases, then I studied the meds. Sure it was alot, but I divided the meds so it was more pleasant to study and absorb. Then I practiced questions to remember it more.

If you're good at memorization, then by all means, use mnemonics. Otherwise, linking the diseases and the meds together is a great way to find correlation between the two. Good luck!:typing
