These might sounds stupid but I have a question. Once you take the NCLEX-RN and pass it.. if you move to another state ( at any given time in the future ) do you have to retake it in the new state? If so.. all states? Or do some required some other test? Is there a statue of limitation after you have been an RN for so long? I live in NY right now but my husband and I have thought about moving to Denver or Portland, Or. Thanks for any help with this.:redbeathe

No. Once is enough. When you move from state to state, you endorse your license into the state you move to. Once you have taken the NCLEX, you never have to take it again, unless you let your license lapse for too many years.

You apply for what is known as "Licensure through Endorsement" with each new state.
Each state requires different qualifications, for the most part, it is only a matter of filling out a form, paying a fee and waiting.
There is also known as something called the "Nurse Licensure Compact." Holding a license in any one of these states allows you to work in any of them under any compact state's license.

nope, every nursing school, every state, has the same test. once you take the test one time thats it. then you can just apply to get your license in another state if you want to.
:yeah:Whew..what a relief! Thanks so much guys for the quick responses!! :redbeathe

Thanks for asking this question, Sunshine. When I'm done with Nursing School, my soon-to-be-hubby and I are planning on moving out of Illinois and we aren't sure where we're headed. Wherever his job takes him I suppose. I was wondering this too! Thanks!
Maladroit, where are you thinking about moving? I LOVE Chicago.. I used to live in West Michigan.

Really now, theres no reason the NCLEX should not be a national certification.
Thinking about Iowa City or Ann Arbor, it may be something else totally, haha. We have some time to think it over.
Chicago is great, but it is too busy and populous for my liking...I'm a small town Iowa girl!
