I'm a 22 year old nurse in the Philippines, planning to review for the NCLEX-RN exam in a few months. Which review centers have a good review program for the NCLEX-RN? Kaplan and Merge are the closest to where I live, but I've heard of Rachelle Allen and URC. Any replies will be appreciated.
i did self review for nclex-rn exam thinking i will pass it on 1st attempt because i passed my local board on 1st attempt too maybe i can also pass on self review.....but no wrong...i really needed the guidance of a review center. here i am again. i will be enrolling in Kaplan tomorrow. i have researched that URC and kaplan have good passing rates. but kaplan will give you harder questions more like nclex.good luck.
btw i was enrolled at a review center during my local boards and centers really do guide their students.
I studied NCLEX on my own since im right here in the US at that time. I studied for a month and successfully passed. If i was still in the philippines i couldve just get at least the final coaching..like what i did during my cgfns exam..i studied first on my own and then take 10 day final coaching at one of the best review center "just my opinion" . Either way as what the person above me posted, every individual is different..some might need a push to do it..and if they have the means then why not..all in all..its up to you..good luck to you and blessings:wink2:
Keep in mind that several of the so-called best review centers in Manila were at the center of the cheating controversy there two years ago when all had to rewrite the NLE exam.
Final coaching as you call it is what one of the centers at the center of all it called their training program; and any facilities here that were aware of what happened there will not even hire a nurse that went thru any of their programs. So please be very careful with what you do and how you do it.
If their instructors have never worked in the US, how are they coaching? That should be something that you need to ask yourself as well. Things are done very differently in the US in terms of practice as well as everything else related to nursing.
I would recommend checking out the NCLEX Forum that we have here under the student tab.
I have to agree that $600 is a rip off, It only costs approximately $200 more or less for a "Review Center" here in the U.S. I am a student in the US, I am researching Review Centers in the Philippines because, I will be going to the Philippines in the summer after I graduate in May. I thought I might as well Review there but the prices are way too steep, especially if all the bad reviews are true. I have to admit I changed my mind. $600 to me is a lot of money especially if I also have to spend $8000 to go to the Philippines.
ufkin, are you aware that kaplan review in manila is way lot cheaper than in here in the US? i deeply regret of backing out on that offer that they have in manila. if ur lucky to have the same offer that i got its less than 300$ including books etc. and that 300$ offered in manila is 600$ in here the review materials are the same that they offer here-got the info from the kaplan office here in the us.
so much regret for me when i learn that info. every person has different learning styles. and if ur a person who learns and retains thing thru listening then why not go for it in manila?

Good Day.
Ms.Suzanne is making a good point actually. How can one efficiently provide a review with only knowledge on hand, lame of working experience. But I would also like to stress the point what a theorist believes, that knowledge is the core and the most fundamental substance a human possesses thus, experience without knowledge is obviously dangerous.
For those who are planning to work and live in US sooner or later, I would suggest you follow the LAW OF RECENCY especially for those newly graduates. Get the experience you need later on, plenty of hospitals looking for volunteer nurses so you wont be worried of finding it hard to get one. For now, focus on reviewing and taking the required exams early since the knowledge you've gain from college are still fresh in your memory. Statistics shows great percentage of passing among those newly graduated nurses when sitting for the exam, than those who've been out of the school more years ago.
Godbless and keep believing.
