NCLEX Retake... How Long

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello nurses, I just would like to know how long should a nurse wait to take NCLEX exam after failing. I heard of 45 days and 90 days. What state is 45 days? Is California one of them? What if I decided to retake not in California but in another state like Arizona, how long should I wait?

CA has just change to 45 days, but it takes more than that to prepare properly.

If you want to go the route of AZ, you will need to start the procedure to get your license with them from the beginning. You cann;t just cahnge states. Remember that NCLEX is the last step of the licensing procedure, you will need to start over from Day One with another state, unless you already have a license to endorse.

I would still wait until you actually hear from the BRN.

You have never stated if you already have a SSN# or not. That will make a big difference as to when you will get your results.

And I forgot to add in, you will aloso need to go thru the CES process with CGFNS before you will be permitted to sit for the exam for AZ. This is if you went thru school not in the US, which you still have never stated.

Hi Suzzane, thanks for the reply. I am a foreign nurse and I dont have SS# yet. I already have a CGFNS certificate. Although I still dont know the result of my last exam since CA takes so long to release result, I already start studying after a one week break just to keep my mind occupied. I have read one of your posts that if you are a foreign nurse dont contemplate taking it in CA, I dont know if I got that right. Anyway the waiting period for the result in CA is very stressful that is why if ever I have to retake I dont want to do it in CA.

It takes about one month for you to get your CA results if you are overseas. This is why I never, ever recommend CA for initial licensure, as well as endorsing issues.

I still would not even think of doing one thing until you hear for sure. You only need to get 50% of the answers correct. Many that have the same feeling as you pass. So just sit tight.

Thank you again Suzzane. Words and encouragement given by everyone here alleviate some of my anxiety regarding the result, that is why I kept coming back here from time to time. I stopped looking at CA website since I could not see my name there even if i pass coz I still dont have SS#. Anyway time spent here is not wasted since you also learn from the questions and answer posted by nurses regarding our profession and practice.

Suzanne, Hi! once again you are right!! I did passed NCLEX exam. I have to thank you for your last post believing that i will pass like the others before me who are feeling the same. I will have my embassy interview first week of April so knowing the result before the interview helps since my employer will now send me the final job offer to be presented to the embassy. Once again thanks!!

Glad to hear it, and all of that worrying for nothing.:balloons:

So, it is now 45 days instead of 91 days to retake in CA? I didn't know about it because on my results paper last month, it still says that retake policy is 91 days. But thanks for the info.

i am just wondering what i can do now that i have failed the nclex-rn three times in the state of texas

Susanne, i have a question. I currently applied for license in the state of Louisiana. I have met all the requierements, including the CGFNS certification. My NCLEX is scheduled for 05/23/2006, and my ATT is from 05/12/2006 through 08/10/2006. There is 45 day waiting to retake the NCLEX in Louisiana. In case I fail, should I start the process all over again, or I can just reschdelue the test within my ATT time frame?
