nclex postanxiety.

Published

Hey everyone, so I tested on the 1st of November at 800. I think I had 132 or 131 questions. My computer shut off before I could check. I got kinda anxious because I had an hour and 30 minutes left although I did not rush. I made sure I read the questions as accurately as possible. Anyways, I was hoping to get the 75 questions with a lot of SATAs and just leave (I know that doesn't always mean you pass, but I sat there for 4 1/2 hours!!! My legs, shoulders, back, and arms were starting to hurt. And my eyes were nearly shutting down on me!!) Anyways, I have been in a state of paranoia since I left the pearsonvue center. I have been thinking on and off about the last question and if I got it right. I believe that I did-that is if I read it right, which I think I did. The question before that last was a SATA and I also believe I got that one right. Oh, My last question was multiple choice. The last couple of questions I kept on getting were SATA. Maybe there were about 4, I think , with mixtures of multiple choice in there (altogether there were about 20-25 SATA- I kinda lost track of count lol). I felt like I was literally guessing on most of the questions through out the exam, but some of them I did know lol. They were mostly priority, delegation, precautions, some meds (1 of which I have never ever heard of), some symptoms, and some psych. I didn't want to do the trick because I've been told that if you didn't pass, it takes the 200$. So I'm going to just check Monday morning. Has anyone had this similar scenario with questions and if so, did you pass, or if you haven't, what are my chances? Thanks

I felt super confident taking my nclex but halfway through I got more nervous. I had the maximum number of questions possible on the pn nclex. Anyways I left there feeling as if I had failed and cried. My husband and friends knew all along I would pass and I did! Just don't let anxiety take over! If you're anything like me and did hard work to prepare im sure you passed. The pass rate is quite high! Best of luck to you!!

Thank u for the response!! Congrats on passing!! :) I worked very hard to

prepare but the questions were super tricky. :/

I do wish you luck, but there's something you might want to keep in mind.....might help with the anxiety, I hope.

The number of questions you got does not indicate any likelihood of your passing OR failing. 130+ questions only means it took that many questions for the computerized program to determine to a satisfactory percentage, that you demonstrated the minimum competency required and passed.....or you did not demonstrate that competency, and failed. Don't obsess on the number of questions, you cannot possibly know how you did from that.

Next, SATA is merely a format option for the questions posed. You could have drag/drop, multiple choice, SATA....NONE of it 'means' anything one way or the other. There is a myth out there that if you have many SATA questions on your exam, you are doing very well. Fact is, if the SATA question is above passing level (and you answer it correctly), you get to stay above passing level (at least, until such time as you may drop below passing level with further questions).

A SATA question that is below the passing standard, but which you answer correctly, affords you the opportunity to get another question, which might bring you up to passing standard. It might be far enough below that it takes two or three questions to get you back to passing again, but this could be the case with ANY FORMAT of question. SATA is irrelevant. And, of course, a below-standard question that you get wrong drops you further below.....and you might get ANY type of question, including SATA, as a followup.

Does this help bring this mess into focus for you?

As for your chances, if you received your nursing education in the US, and this is the first time you are attempting the NCLEX, you have approximately a 91% chance of passing. Those are pretty darned good odds, going in!

Hang in there, and we'll hope for the best :)

Yeah, this helped. :)

now, If u could only give me an ex of a passing standard sata and mc question. :)

thank u

We cannot as this is a complex formula based on Blooms Taxonomy and other scientific methods of linguistic comprehension. & processing determination. . As to which questions are at near below or above this is confidential to NCSBN & Peardon Vue. Any example a member posted would be pure speculation as what one considers more difficult may actually be near or below but a question perceived as lower level may actually be a higher cognitive level question.

The only thing that stopping at 75 means is that you're definitely above or below passing standard. Once you go 76 or beyond, it means somewhere along the way, you're "near passing" which can be just above or just below passing and the computer has to ask you questions to determine with 95% confidence that you have passed or failed. Every question you get past 75 means you're still in the game and it means that the computer needed to ask you another question to determine whether or not you passed or failed. Once the computer shuts off, finish the process and go do something fun because there's nothing you can do to and your result will be what it will be. Give it at least 24 hours (and watch your state's license website) before you try the PVT. It's different than it was and be fully prepared to pay $200 if you have failed. If that seems a bit steep, and if your state participates in the Quick Results, it might be good to just pay the $8 for the result. It's still "unofficial" but it's accurate.

Hmmm. Interesting. I looked through my saunders and kaplan books. Kinda figured out which ones are suppose to be higer, lower....content based-lower, prioritizing-higher (I think).

Not really. It's not that simple. There is a lot more cognitive assessment. There are higher and lower level questions in multiple choice, SATA, fill in, drag and drop, prioritization. Unless you have training in educational foundations, assessment and testing, familiarity in bloom's taxonomy, it's just a guess as to which questions are higher and lower. That is why candidates need to have strong content as well as critical thinking skills to determine the best answer as often one can reduce to two correct answers but must choose the "more correct " better answer.

I passed!!!!!! License was posted yesterday morning!!!!!!!!!! :)

THANK YOU!!!!!!!
