NCLEX-PN -- second time around [need encouragement]

I just graduated this June 2009 from a local private college. I was the 5th PN graduate to take the NCLEX-PN--and first to fail!!!!!! [depressing :bluecry1: ] So far, I am one of two that failed [at least I'm not alone--right!!!?!]. There is only 3 left in our class of 18 total that still need to take it--I have no doubt in my mind they will pass. I am so depressed, I feel like I am a stupid-idiot. I don't even know why I'm posting this, I guess for therapy--I feel like I have no one to talk to. :zzzzz After reading a few of the stories on here, I don't feel so bad. I am actually inspired [thank you allnurses] to pick myself up, try harder, study harder and pass the second time around [still depressed though]. I went to the book store and bought, 'NCLEX-PN Review made Incredibly Easy'. So far it's a good read with great info.

I need to buy a book for idiots--do they have one??--lol! :chuckle

Anyone have thoughts/advice on other resources??? [i have two different DVDs w/ NCLEX-type study questions, also ATI books, DVDs and online practice testing.] I probably have all the resources I need, I feel like no matter what I study it's not going to be the information I test on--it's the roll of the dice!

For now, I wait for my new test date. :typing

My goal: to PASS the NCLEX-PN in September '09!!!

I know the feeling. I graduated last November though!! I went back to school after graduating, took the test and failed. I was so wrapped up in my new classes that it was hard to find time to study for the NCLEX and my other classes. So I plan on atking it in September before classes start up again. I am using Saunders and Kaplan...I heard Exam Cram was pretty good too. I'm trying to stay optimistic about passing. Good luck to you!! We'll do great! :wink2:

Sunflowerross, don't feel like a stupid idiot. NCLEX is a hard test. I've taken it 3 times previously. I graduated nursing school in 06. It has been over a year since I've taken the NCLEX PN again... but I'm not going to give up. It doesn't matter how long it takes you... you will pass. If you made it through nursing school you will pass the NCLEX PN. A lot of people don't pass. They just don't say anything about it. My best advice is to do a lot of practice questions. Read up on questions that you get wrong. Memorize lab values, drugs class... etc. It's kind of overwhelming but... have faith in yourself and think positive and you will make it!! :)

Thanks Brandi! I wanted to write you earlier--I just don't know how to get around this site very well!! I hate doing study questions---I need to make myself do it!!!! WE WILL PASS NEXT TIME!!!!

You are so right!! We will do it! I know we will! It's just a hard test. It's basically testing you on how safe of a nurse you will be according to the text book. All of the answers are assuming that you have all the time in the world and all of the staff that you need. We just have to tell our selves that we will pass and we will. If it's not this time it will be next time. We just have to work a little bit harder which will only make us appreciate it more!!! I am ready to jump this hurdle and put it behind me. When I failed... I was so discouraged. I didn't want to take it again. I thought about it every single day but I didn't want to fail again.. I wanted everyone to forget that I even went to school so that no one would ask me if I passed my Nclex. Or why aren't you working as a nurse yet? You know what we aren't alone.

Maybe try breaking up your questions... maybe do 50 in the morning and 50 of an evening. That's what I do. It seems to be going well. I am also making index cards so that my husband can quiz me. :)

I think you need like 15 or 20 posts to be able to message. :) Keep me posted on how things are going!!

hello if it is any help i was in the same situation as you i did fail the nclex the first time also i felt stupid i felt like a failure ..embarrassment i could not tell you how upset i was i know you probably feel the same way ! Keep the faith - there is no reason that you cant--- you CAN and you WILL pass the next time around looks like you are very determined and going to work hard at it... the second time around i rented PN book from the library.. i read them for about 3-4 months not crazy but at least more than a few times a week! just dont burn yourself out~ the second tim i took it i got 205 questions it may have taken me 4 hrs and 45 minutes but i read each question 2 or 3 times if i had to and i took the breaks that were offered if i felt like i was getting thrown off!!! just try to do as many practice questions as you can it will help you in the book or on the cd!!:wink2:

GOOD LUCK LET US KNOW HOW YOU DID!!!:nurse:

Thanks Brandi -- after going through questions yesterday, I sat in the livingroom and did french manicures on my toe & finger nails while listening to DVD's that came with the ATI package I have. It was nice to listen to while doing something fun.

[if I'm not studying I have 'f-a-c-e' book--lol--my only social-life at this point!!!] LOL--I'm pathetic--I have no friends right now cause I'm so wrapped up in this NCLEX crap--like you said, we have to jump this hurtle and then it will be so rewarding to PASS!!!!! You are right--we will appreciate it so much more!! I am feeling a little better than yesterday--not so depressed!

WE WILL DO GREAT NEXT TIME!!!

If you haven't done so yet.... read the strategies on answering nclex questions.

I'm sure you know the basic nursing concept cause thats

what your tested on, but when it comes to how you are to read and answer

the question its a whole other ballgame.

I just took the nclex-pn yesterday (thurs) found out I passed this morning (fri) :nurse:Thank God!

when testing I was thinking how I should have focused on lab values, and basic drugs categories.

What helped me with the questions I didn't know was the strategies I read on how to

answer nclex question, it helped big time. Anyway, have faith, don't doubt yourself, and you will get it
