I know I didn't post this in the correct area, but it wouldn't let me select the topic I wanted. I need help! I have taken the boards twice for my RN and have failed both times. I got all 265 questions and was "near the passing standard" on all topics each time. I used the Kaplan review source plus their online access, the hurst book, and exam cram. I'm lost and discouraged and do not know what to do to ensure that I pass the next time I take it. Can anyone PLEASE give me some suggestions on what to do differently. I don't want to keep doing the same things as I've done in the past because it obviously didn't work for me then. Thank you for any help!

The issue may not necessarily the source of the review, but how one approaches the NCLEX itself: understanding the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:
1. Safe, effective care;
2.Health promotion;
3.Physiological Integrity;
4.Psychosocial integrity
Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; the question may be Respiratory related-but is it a Health Promotion or a Safety, or a Physiological or a Psychosocial one? Would you know the difference and choose the BEST answer?
Once one understands the concepts of NCLEX, they can do so successfully.
It appears the you need to learn to understand WHAT the question is asking you; THEN review the rationales, THEN if you don't understand the rationale, look to the sources of information; also, learn to go the distance when choosing the best answer; start with the minimum, then end up with the maximum.
Best wishes.

Most people including myself have succeeded with use of the Saunders NCLEX review book and CD. consider signing up for classes too...I found them helpful

I cannot Agree more with this. I found that you cant really.. "study" for the Nclex. It was totally unlike any of the questions I did. What I CAN say is that you need to do more questions, and read the rationales. If you think you've done enough questions, do more. I did 7500, Try Hurst, Kaplan, Saunders, NCBSN (This one has the hardest questions I have ever ran into honestly, great prep for me.) Nclex 3500, prep U, whichever. Just keep doing them, youll learn how to answer and understand the questions, and youll expand your knowledge base at the same time.
Good luck!
Edit: Side note. During the boards I would run into questions that appeared to be one thing but really the question was asking something totally different .

Everyone's advise here is great but I want to add something.
There are tutors that do this all the time. I passed the first time, but some of my classmates did not, and my school referred them to NCLEX tutors. These nurses will work with you, pinpoint your weaknesses, determine what is going wrong and help you resolve the issues. Every one of my classmates that took tutoring passed the first attempt after tutoring.
