NCLEX was harder than any practice questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

I took my NCLEX today and I knew about 4 questions. I have done the Kaplan, HESI, and reviews and felt really prepared for it...Until it began. The questions were difficult, most of the drugs I had never heard of, and there names didn't elp me figure out what thye were for either! I also a a lot of "select all that apply" and tons that I had a hard time selecting the BEST answer for. The computer shut off at 75, and I really do not feel confident at this point. The questions all seemed really difficult and left me feeling awful!!!!

Hey there! I took it today too! I took only 75 and I was done in about an hour. I am nervous but seriously I think I passed...Trust me, if you were getting a lot of select all that apply and drugs you have never seen..you did just fine! They told us in kaplan review that the first 5 or 6 questions determines your baseline and it goes from there..so happy thoughts and don't fret! I'm sure we both passed just fine! :) Be sure to keep me posted.

I took the NCLEX Wednesday, and I left there in tears. I came home and opened my NCLEX book to start studying for test #2. I seriously knew maybe 5 answers out of the whole test, the rest I completely guessed. And today I found out I passed. I am still logging onto Pearson to make sure they haven't changed their minds about me passing. So if I can do it, you can too! Just think positive. And believe me, I know how hard that is. Try to have a good weekend!

Heey, I took the NCLEX earlier this morning and it shut off @ 75 after about an hour and a half. I got three select all that apply questions, more drugs than I thought, and a number of priorities (which patient first, what to do first). I'm a little nervous that I didn't get MORE.. I'm not sure. I think I'm forgetting how many there were. There was one question that I read through and laughed - because I didn't know such a word existed. Judging how everybody else on the site reports back, I think we're okay. :) Keep us posted. Are select-all and weird drug questions considered higher level? I wasn't sure about that.

I believe most of the priority are considered the higher end...my test ended with about 20 or more of those in a row (or at least it seemed that way it was like NCLEX fireworks ha ha..) 75 and I passed..most ppl do w/75 it seems - I mean the majority who shut down at 75 seem to be passing.

Hang in there! It's normal to not feel very confident after the NCLEX, since both passers and failers tend to score around 50%. And regardless of the number of questions, the great majority of people pass the NCLEX, period.

I took the NCLEX exam today, I felt it was a guessing game. I only felt confident about maybe 10 questions out of 110. I belief in miracles and I am waiting on one to happen I think this is the only way I could have passed.

You know, I took the test last week and I agree the questions we study with aren't even close to whats on the NCLEX but I think you need about a 35% to pass. At least that is about what I figured I my score to have been and I still passed. I know I am not that great of a guesser. I think I knew about 20 questions, narrowed another twenty to one or the other, and the remaining 130 were just enie-meenie-minie-moe... There must be certain questions that need to be answered right in order to pass and the others are just to see how you can work under duress.

I could be way off but way too many people leave the test swearing they failed and they passed. I am sure after this much schooling and the zillions of tests we have taken, we could judge about how many we are getting right or wrong.

Anyway that is my uneducated guess and I am sure you all passed.

Good Luck

Just think...if you get 75 questions 15 of those are "test" questions that don't count. That only leaves 60 questions and you just have to get half of those right ;)

I took the test June 26th it stopped at 75 I was able to narrow it down to two answers and the rest was lucky guessing. I left feeling deflated, upset, mad, I didn't think i passed but found out 48 hours later I did. Why do they do that to us? That test was nothing what I expected. Had a lot of priorty and delegation and about 8-9 select all that apply. Several medication questions. I wish they would let you know which ones you got wrong or how well you did instead of pass/fail. Even though it said pass on Pearson I kept checking on my state board to see if my name was posted. Neurotic isn't it?

I sure hope they are higher level because that's mostly what I got also. LOL! I also got 75 questions that were mostly pharmacology, prioritization, mgmt and delegation. I thought maybe they were just picking on my weak points because pharmacology is not my strongest point, and some of those drugs I had never heard of....I KNOW we did not cover them in our Pharm class.

I thought I was gonna be okay because I made a 95% on our HESI exit exam, and I consistently made scores above the desired level on the Kaplan questions and question trainers on their website. We were required to take Kaplan's course to graduate so had access to all these materials on their site, but I am starting to think it was a waste of money.

I really left there thinking I have failed in spite of my friends and family telling me they're sure I did fine. Has anyone ever heard of the test "honing" in on your weakness and asking you mostly questions from that? That's what it felt like and my best friend had almost totally different subject matter on her test and passed. When it cut off I was like, "No, one more!!! You haven't asked me any questions about the stuff I KNOW!!!" AAAAAAHHHHH....I feel like doing this right now. :chair:

I took Kaplan Review in November 2006, have dozens review disks and review books, was tutored for about 2 months, disappointment tutor did not have time and I have reviewed for over a year. I took NCLEX RN July 24th 2006 and I failed, not surprised but the questions were from PLUTO. Nothing I painstakingly reviewed to try to awaken this dusty brain after graduating nursing school in 1994 helped. I cried, did not even want to breath, felt like I set myself up for pain that was cruel and unhealthy after this test. I am going to re-take this test, I am not ready to give up yet but I am clueless how to try again, nothing I have to review helped, what do you do, how do you prepare for a test that is so awful. I appreciate this forum because it helps me feel that although I am looking for a miracle after all these years of no exposure but plenty of self destruction inbetween that I am not alone, whether new grad or old grad. Thanks
