NCLEX Experiences APU student's perspective

Published

Hello, I can't believe that we graduated AND are now taking the NCLEX. I took it yesterday after spending many hours with my new best friend Kaplan. I would like to tell you that I left Pearson feeling refreshed but I left really defeated. I am scared. The test was hard and now that I am looking up answers I think I did not make it. I got 75 questions, which, I think is what we all would like, but not if you bombed. ARGH. I am truly trying to do deep breathing and focus on the here and now. Tell me about what you are doing to prepare and how the test went for you. :o

Chris

Thank you everyone for the prayers and words of encouragement. I'm taking the test tomorrow and I've had a stomach ache all day. Does anyone know within what time frame we are supposed to find out our results?? I'm already freaking out about that.

Thanks, Jenny :]. I hope that things will work out in the end. I'm just getting nervous for the results!

SAV YOU CAN DO IT! I'll be praying for you too. :D

Sav- by the time you read this you will have finished that stupid test. Now, you can pre occupy your mind with some fun for a week. It appears that the board is running at minimum 3 business days for results, but there is not a hard and fast rule on the matter. Keep us posted!!!

PS: browse around this website. It is filled with lots of personal stories of hope and success. I left the site feeling deflated, and then the person at the center made a comment about how fast I was done, I was so mad at the time. Anyway- happy ending and one for you, too!

They also commented on how fast I was too, Chris. I was there just a bit over an hour. Only one person finished before I did. Too bad I still have to wait for the results. The website says they only update Monday-Friday.

Yeah, I was also a bit over an hour. It is important to remember that the number of questions is not a clue to pass or fail. The computer will shut off once it has determined you are either above or below the minimum competency. The waiting is certainly the hardest part. I had wished for more questions to somehow prove my knowledge, funny-huh?

Any word from Savannah?

Savannah successfully finished pretty much within the same time frame as us, Chris. She too was surprised at the test shutting off earlier and not feeling any better about it at the end. So I guess now it's just the waiting game.

When the test shut off so soon, I thought "OMG, I THINK I GOT EVERYTHING WRONG!!!" I seriously thought that I had to have failed beyond belief to have it shut off that soon. I was hoping for more questions.

I got a lot of priority questions.. are those considered hard questions??

The priority questions are considered more advanced like with Kaplan. The analysis and application. I see it as a good sign!! So, no math? :lol2:

great job sav and angelique!!! and yes...priority questions ARE good! it seems like the NCLEX really focused a LOT on those types. i think it might be because one of the JCAHO goals for 2007 deals with patient safety. just a thought though...

anyways...keep us posted :) and congrats on finishing...

oh ps...i met a girl at UCLA that had a friend who REALLY needed to know if she passed or not in order to know whether or not to accept a job. so...she called the state board and said "i know you can't tell me my results, but i just need to know whether or not i should put my books away?" and the BRN told her "you're fine, you can put your books away." she found out a few days later she passed. i just thought that was kind of interesting, although i know the BRN doesn't like to be bothered. haha.

take care everyone!!!

lisa

Ha ha, leave it to nurses to figure out how to the get the right answer!! Best of luck to both of you and please let us know when you get the great news!

Oh- Savannah??????????

I PASSED! =) i ended up with 78 questions and became physically ill after the test! haha. i found out a couple of days later and almost had a heart attack because i was so surprised. i do believe i screamed...haha. anyway, thanks again for the prayers and good luck to everyone who still needs to take the test! :nuke: i can finally relax now.
