NCLEX Experiences APU student's perspective

Published

Hello, I can't believe that we graduated AND are now taking the NCLEX. I took it yesterday after spending many hours with my new best friend Kaplan. I would like to tell you that I left Pearson feeling refreshed but I left really defeated. I am scared. The test was hard and now that I am looking up answers I think I did not make it. I got 75 questions, which, I think is what we all would like, but not if you bombed. ARGH. I am truly trying to do deep breathing and focus on the here and now. Tell me about what you are doing to prepare and how the test went for you. :o

Chris

I PASSED, and it is 5am and dark. :lol2: no body to smile at, so I am sharing it here first. This feels really good to see my name in lights, well at least on the bon website. :monkeydance:

Thanks Chris for the advice! Yeah I started really cracking down on the meds....I think that Kaplan has done a good job of grouping the meds in the graphs at the end of the review book. I have been trying to memorize them and group them together and try to find the most common side effects and such for the group. There is way too many to memorize! Chris, how did you do on the final tests of the question trainer, 5-7, if I may ask? I have only done the first 2 and am scoring low about 60%. However, in Blooms Taxonomy so far in top sections such as Analysis and the other one, I have scored 80%-100%, so I think that is good.

CONGRATS CHRIS!!!!! good job!!! :)

test 6 overall 71%

application 73%

analysis 66%

Test 7 overall 64%

application 62%

analysis 66%

Word from the instructor was to focus at least >50% on the application/analysis. Sounds like from what you are telling me you on meeting and exceeding the recommendation from Kaplan.

Thanks for the congrats Please keep me posted on your progress. There may come a time when you have done all you can do.

from another nursing graduate (I will try to answer this later, but you guys can add anything): Hi Chrisapu,

I read your post about KAPLAN. I also took KAPLAN and am currently doing the qbank questions.I've taken the 3 out of the 7 question trainers and have gotten 53%,52%, 49% respectively. I, however reviewed each and every questions and retook them and got 100 % on all three. I then switched and have been practicing on the qbank questionaires and have been getting at least 60%-75%. Now, I would like to know how you utilized your study time and passed the board??? Please help. By the way, I've been reading the course book and am almost done. I'm planning on taking the boards in July 5th. Any more tips you can give me???

Also, how did you find out your result??? was it via the BRN website??? How long did you wait to find out the result??? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Chris did you pass??? I looked you up, and if your middle name is Gray...then you did!!!! I'm really excited for you!

I won't be taking the test until after wedding and honeymoon hooplah :) So I hope I don't forget everything by then!

Keep in Touch!

Congrats, Chris and thank you for all of your help! I am trying to patiently await my NCLEX results but as you know it's very challenging. It's good to know that you felt uncertain about your results yet you still passed...from everyone that I've talked to that seems to be the consensus. I don't think anyone feels 100% confident after boards. Good luck Jenny, Avery, Stacy, and anyone else who has yet to take boards :) You are all in my prayers. All I have to say is stay focused, try not to be too hard on yourself, and pray like crazy! Let me know if ya'll have any questions...

-Lisa

You all are awesome and now you can pass the boards too. I really felt awful (tears, stress), until I read my name. Kaplan does help, but be mentally prepared to see stuff that you just don't know.

Stacy-- you have a lot going on right now and I know that once you finish the wedding stuff, you will pass, too. Study hard.

Lisa- it was great to hear from you, the waiting is difficult :uhoh3: , I know, but try to find something to preoccupy your mind (shopping, drinking, long walks on the beach).

Spread the word on the forum, 'cause I know that others are having a challenging time processing this whole event. Leaving the testing center and going back to the car is like leaving a war zone. :bluecry1: We will continue to get through this.

Chris

Megan passed!!!!!!! Yahooo!!! :nuke: :nuke:

So far...from what I've heard...everyone has been passing and absolutely everyone has walked away from the NCLEX with feelings of doubt, uncertainty, frustration, anger, and just a whole blend of indescribable emotions. Hopefully more people will spread the word that these feelings are completely normal and not to panic! And ps...it seems as though everyone taking the test in Ontario, CA (including myself) has found out REALLY quickly the results of the test. If anyone is reading this that has yet to take it and doesn't want a long wait, it seems like this center is the way to go!

Congrats again to everyone who's passed...it seems so surreal! I still feel like I know absolutely nothing...but I guess that's okay since I'm sure for the start of the new grad program I will feel like an idiot anyways since apparently we don't learn a whole lot of how the "real world" does things in school. When does everyone start their jobs??? And where will everyone be living?? I miss you guys!!

Love, Lisa

Lisa, I heard about your new home and job. Congrats. you have picked a great start to what promises to be long and prosperous career. The beach area will be fun! I will always remember our bonding time together in Dr. Cherney's class where we all sat there day after day, with puzzled looks on our face. Looking back he was such a cool guy, but at the time.......

I also enjoyed the tutoring we did. What a delight to watch you grow.

Chris
