Hello, I can't believe that we graduated AND are now taking the NCLEX. I took it yesterday after spending many hours with my new best friend Kaplan. I would like to tell you that I left Pearson feeling refreshed but I left really defeated. I am scared. The test was hard and now that I am looking up answers I think I did not make it. I got 75 questions, which, I think is what we all would like, but not if you bombed. ARGH. I am truly trying to do deep breathing and focus on the here and now. Tell me about what you are doing to prepare and how the test went for you.
Chris
P.s. here is the link to the BON in CA. This is where you can check for our license; http://www.rn.ca.gov/

Hey guys!
Well I am sorry you are stressed Chris. So far it seems that a lot of APUers got 75 questions. It is ok...I am sure you did well Chris! You are really smart! But the way that I look at it is we already did the hart part in passing nursing school with our degree! :) The test is the easy part! :)
I think that Kaplan has really been helping me. My scores at the end of the course on the readiness test went way up...so that is encouraging. I will be taking the test in about 2 weeks. Any helpful tips???

Chris,
I am so nervous for you, but in a good-excited way. You are the first person that I have heard of that has taken the test. I have faith that you will have defeated it!! I am not sure exactly when I am going to take it but hope that it will be relatively soon. I am sending my check to Pearson tomorrow and filling out the scantron right now. Keep me posted on your results. Thanks for organizing this, it was a great idea!!!
I think if anything, Kaplan provides a structure to help us measure our readiness to test. The analysis and application questions will create the biggest challenges for us.
Advice for the NCELX is: take each question individually, and clear your mind of what you answered on the last question, etc.
Expect that there will be meds or some topic that is brand new to you. Do not let it throw you off. You can worry about it AFTER the test. Remain calm.
You all are so kind to keep me encouraged. I am practicing alot of positive self talk. I am here for you all as you get closer to the test and after. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for YOU!
Thanks for the advice, I am going to take the second diagnostic test tomorrow and hope to improve. I can't really tell how much it has helped so far because the percentage that I am getting on the question trainer quizzes is not exactly something to get excited over. We will see tomorrow.

What I learned from Kaplan is that the overall scores are not as important as the % on test 5,6, and 7 under the application and analysis categories. The first few online practice tests (1-4) will help you begin to build on all the book information. Keep on working hard, and make sure you have a study plan.
To me, the Kaplan book seems to be a really good summary of the info. That and the online work are all I am really using. Is that ok?
The hardest parts for me on the tests are OB and meds for sure. Any tips to learn meds more? Just memorization?
I am taking the NCLEX in 2 weeks so pray for me too! :)
Wow Jenny, the two week count down!! I am excited for you. With respect to the meds, this is my weakest area, --always has been. Kaplan tests tend to have their favorite meds to test on, beta blockers, hep, mao, but I was really surprised to not see anything I recognized on the NCLEX, scary huh? Build your core knowledge base, attempt to memorize the oddball named drugs in the classes and hope that there is commonality in side effects.
Does anyone know who has passed or who has taken the test recently?
:welcome:
Found out this am (5am) I PASSED!!! I am in disbelief at the moment. Still in my pj's. Ok-this is great.
