Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Suzanne,

I have a question for you since you have students. You recommend Saunders hands down and I wanted to know what other study material you recommend. I have the Saunders Q&A book and I use the NCLEX review book from the Nursing Education Consultants. We had Kaplan come to our school today to go over what they give. They said they have more higher level questions than anyone else which is more like the NCLEX. Versus some reviews that have recall/knowledge questions. Is this true? Do you think Saunders has more higher level questions?

I'm taking the Hurst Review now and love it but I'm wondering how Kaplan is. I guess I feel like I'm missing something because some of my classmates are taking Kaplan. Did any of your students take review courses and if so, which one. Oh, we also have Meds Publishing coming to do a free live review for us since we paid for their programs during school.

Thanks!

Tiffany

None of my students has taken a review course, other than my classes. Each has passed NCLEX that has taken NCLEX since taking my program.

And be aware that English is a second language for all of my students.

I like the Saunders book the best because I think that it is very important to know why an answer was considered incorrect, not just the correct answer. Saunders does the best job in getting this across and I like the way that they present.

I personally haven't seen any better results with students that have taken these review classes. Just do at least 3000-4000 questions before the exam, and take the day before just for yourself.................

Suzanne

Thanks!!! I am learning lots from Hurst as far as understanding diseases better. I'm doing the online video!

Thanks for letting me know. I just wanted reassurance of what I'm doing.

hi suzanne,

i'm still reviewing for the nclex and i would like to ask for your suggestions..

just finished the saunder's cd as well its rationales, but i'm only averaging to 65-72% also, i'm only doing self review and i'm having a hard time focusing, boredom is my #1 enemy. :uhoh3:

what else must i do? how do you motivate your students to keep going? and can you suggest other strategies for me to excel with my practice tests..

planning to take the exam this coming may or early week of june,'05 (also, i'm still waiting for my eligibility and my ATT)

thanks a lot. :)

Hi Suzanne4:

I know you are helping lots people here and I do love to read your detailed advice. Here I need your advice, too. I took Hurst online review to re-study all contents again since I graduated from nursing 2 years ago (from Canadian university). Working as a RN here in Canada and studying for NCLEX. Physically, it's hard but I am enjoying learning again. Then, I am practicing questions from Saunders about 200 questions everyday. My exam date is on 19th of April (if I don't change), and my score is always about 69 to 75%.....so I am getting nervous. What would be the target score to pass on Saunders? Could you please also send me your package? I am willing to pay for the cost! I appreciate your help :chuckle

PS: By the way, I am also like your students... English is the second language.

Rikomama,

Have you had a chance to watch the Hurst video on how to pass the NCLEX on the first try? She gave some really good tips. One that I remember the most is when your reviewing, it's important to get "more right then wrong." So when I'm reviewing I keep track of how many I get right and compare it to the number wrong and as long as I have more right then wrong then I'm doing good. Remember she said the NCLEX doesn't do straight tally, it wants to see that you are more right then wrong.

I also purchased the book she recommended NCLEX RN 101 by Sylvia Rayfield

Here is a link and a chance to download and example from her book.

I'm a sucker for more books! I promise! No more book buying!!!

Tiffany: Thank you for giving me good advice. I remember that Marlene said "more right then wrong". I should keep it in mind and should be more confident what I am doing. For NCLEX, I got 12 days off from work this week. I am trying to study study and study just like Marlene told us we need time about 10 days straight ahead for study. Wow! You really have lots of books to read, ah? I am very sure you will be fine once you go through everything. Did you decide when to write the exam?? Don't push you too hard, though....then, you might feel too stress just like me. I am getting overtired.....answering questions and questions everyday//// But, obviously, this site encourages me so much. I am very lucky to find this website! Thank you for your time and encouragement!

PresC & Rikomama, im in the same boat. But my only resources is the Saunders, nothing else lol. Cant either afford the online review but other than that I just PRAY :)
