Register to take for NCLEX before I graduate?

Fellow Humans:

I called the NCLEX people and asked them if I can register to take the NCLEX before I graduate. But, the person on the other end spoke very poor English and I could not understand what they said to me in response to my question.

Then when I called back a second time with the same answer I received another person that did not understand what I was asking them? :angryfire

So, can you please answer this question for me? I would appreciate any responses.

Also, I would like to take my NCLEX five days after I graduate!

The place to start is with your nursing program. In order to be eligible for the NCLEX your nursing program has to verify that you are in fact a graduate. Each state has different criteria as to how this is done, but none the less verification from your nursing program is part of the process. Since all nursing programs have experience with the NCLEX process I would suggest discussing this with the director or your program.

It may be unrealistic to expect to take the NCLEX five days after graduation given the multi-step process for eligibility verification between your nursing school, your state board of nursing and Pearson-Vue. After all of your paper work is processed and you receive your ATT (authorization to test) you then must book a test-time. There is often a wait time to test based on availability of test time "slots".

Your nursing program director has experience with your nursing program graduates NCLEX processing time, this would be the place to start. Good luck.

I've heard people in my program usually get a test date about 2 months after graduation. It depends how quickly your school gets your paperwork out, and how many nursing school grads in your area are trying to get a date at the testing center.

No you cannot usually sit for boards until you have your degree. You cannot even apply here in NH until the BON gets your trascript stating you earned your degree.

I just sent my fees in to take the test last week. We were told that we had to have our money sent in by April 1st if we wanted to take the test in June. I'll graduate May 11th. We can't actually schedule our appointment to test until after the college sends in our transcripts, and they won't send those in until the day after graduation. By sending your fee in now, it just gets you on the waiting list sooner. It also gives the Board time to do your background check and get all of that stuff out of the way. Hope this has been helpful to you. Talk with the director of your nursing program. That's where we received all of our information.
