NCLEX August 2016 and PVT

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi guys!

It's my first time writing a post on this and I wanted to share my NCLEX and PVT experience with everyone. ON August 3, 2016 I took my NCLEX for the very first time. I had 76 questions and a chilling fear that I was going to fail with each question I answered. Majority of my questions were on Infection control and I had regretted not focusing more on that. I had a few SATA and no calculations whatsoever. I had prepared with Kaplan. However, I didn't follow the studying schedule strictly and in all honesty, I was probably lazy about studying. I did around 30-50 questions per day and reviewed each questions. I started to focus on studying the last week before the nclex ( BIG MISTAKE).

So, as soon as I step out of the exam site, I try the PVT and ofcourse it processes my payment. I'm heartbroken and freaking out as my dad comes to pick me up. For two whole days I was miserable. I hardly slept and all I did was stress eat. I was rude and mean to my family because I couldn't cope with my stress. I have finals coming up for the classes I was taking for NP school and I couldn't focus on a thing. Let me tell you by failing this nclex i jeopardized my entire career. I was required to submit a license number by the end of this month but I'll be unable to do so and I most likely will be kicked out of my program. So you guys can't imagine how I actually feel right now.

Anyway, for two days I searched non-stop about the PVT not working and if it was possible that VUE takes your money but you pass. LET ME TELL YOU, THE PVT (unfortunately) WORKS! However, I advise every single person out there to not try it. I was a mess for two days! I still waited for the unofficial results, so there was absolutely no point in trying the trick. It didn't make me feel any better or any less anxious. If anything, it added to my stress. It is not worth it.

The points I am trying to make are:

1. absolutely do not wait for the last possible month to take the NCLEX if you have a deadline to meet. I was confident I would pass. I felt prepared and ready to tackle the NCLEX. However, now I realize the stupidity of my actions. If I had taken the NCLEX in June or early July, I would've been better prepared to take the nclex in August and I know I would've passed the second time around. I would be able to continue into the NP program AND I would be able to work as an RN.

2. study hard! everything depends on this one test and it really isn't worth slacking off on. Spend at least 3-4 hours everyday reviewing and taking practice questions. By taking this nclex I realized my weak points. If i had focused better on the Kaplan questions I would've realized this earlier. I always "studied" in the living room where my family was. I was distracted 95% of the time. I googled answers a hundred or more times for questions I did not know. Let me tell you that is not a good way to study. Just answer the questions to the best of your knowledge and then review the material after!

3. The PVT is just going to freak you out further. Just don't put yourself through that misery.

Sorry you didn't pass. As an FYI, not everybody needs to study for NCLEX. I didn't and I passed in 75 questions a couple of weeks after graduation. I did 75-100 practice questions a day for about a week and a half but that was it.

I agree with you. NCLEX wasn't that hard, in my opinion. I did some review after graduating, but stopped a couple of weeks before the exam. I'm a firm believer in paying attention in school and passing those tests. We used ATI and I believe that was key.

I couldn't agree with you more on both points. The PVT (I didn't try) is only an anxiety exacerbator. As for waiting, you should take any test like NCLEX as soon as possible. I am an EMT as well and we have to recertify every two years by 31 March through PVUE. I know people that lost certification by failling to sign up for an exam in time. Give yourself some wiggle room.

I totally agree that ATI is very good for the NCLEX. I take it August 15th and I just graduated July 28th. I'm just mainly doing questions from the mastery app and ATI modules. I thought about doing PVT after the test but I don't want to go crazy waiting..

We used ATI throughout school. It's a great program!

Sorry about your situation, failing is hard to bounce back from on it's own, and on top of that you have the stress of not continuing with NP school.

I however support the PVT, it helped me move along with my life quicker after failing. I'm in CA with no quick results.
