Failed the NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone,

I see so many posts on people passing the boards their first try but unfortunately, I am one who didn't. I know I am not alone but I wanted to hear from anyone who may have had similar problems with anxiety in taking the NCLEX. I know for me I pushed myself way too soon to take the test after graduating, getting married, honeymooning and taking the test the following week.

After about question 88 I had a panic attack and my pulse started racing. I never recovered and the computer shut off at 155 questions. I had no idea how I did until today.

I plan on taking Kaplan's online course as my second prep class and hope it helps better than the first course I took.

So if anyone has any words of wisdom for me, I would appreciate it.

Here's to Abraham Lincoln who never gave up and neither will I.

i think the best advice is remember abc's and approach each question different and oh yea brush up on your isol;ation procedures esp diseases - i found them difficult and the machine knew :)

This thread was started more than 5 years ago, and things with the exam have changed considerably, from the type of questions and everything else in between.

I have moved this thread to the NCLEX Discussion Forum where it is more appropriate. Graduate Nurse forum is actually for those that have not written the NCLEX exam as of yet, and if you have written it and have not passed it, then you are no longer considered a GN in any state.

The first tip of my program is posted at the top of this forum, if you wish my help, complete it as it is posted and then contact me via the pm system that we have in place here. The private message system can be accessed bt clicking on the My Account tab at the top of this page, or by clicking on my user name and using the pm section, not the e-mail response to me.

Best of luck as you prepare again.

Hi Jacel!

I can very well relate to what you're going through coz I've been there.. I passed CGFNS and with I was confident that I'm gonna make it with NCLEX. I was quite laid back while having my NCLEX review and was concentrating more on my husband, by the way we are newly wed when we decided to take the exam as he is also a nurse..Bottomline: business first before pleasure... I and my hubby are still planning to take the exam maybe after I give birth...DON'T ever Lose Hope..GOD is good.:redbeathe

Jacel is probably long gone because she posted her original message over 5 years ago. But your words are very encouraging....hopefully others will benefit.:)

The ONLY way you can pass the exam is to think like a nurse. Relax and take it easy. I passed following Suzanes plan and it worked. Contact her for the plan and it will help you pass the exam with ease.

Please don't contact her until you have completed the first tip and met her requirements. Everything can be found in the sticky called 2008 version of Suzanne's plan

Hi I too missed on the first one - the learningext.com site is a site that nclex actually supports and i found that the content helped me greatly-as for thinking like a nurse im not sure that is alll you have to do to pass this - most nurses question the rationals and validities of the NCLEX and are definatley relieved when it is over

Hi All,

I to failed on the first try and the second and third I worked so hard,I just got test anxiety all three times test shut off at 205.So in my state in order to take the test again I had to come up with a plan of remediation and submit it to the BON and so I did,They approved me to test for my final time.So I started back in the books and studied tilll thats all I see plus I took a nclex review.I tested Oct of 07 and left with doing 205 questions was sick to my stomach knowing asll I had worked so hard for was gone.I hid in my room hated everyone went to work the next day told everyone I didnt think I passed,But you know I really thought the nclex this last time was easy,I flew through all the questions thinking wow I know these answers.well for my history 205 wasnt a good number. At work the next day I get a phone call from my sister in another state and told me I did it.......What a feeling I almost passed out my eyesight was blurry,I was shaking....in total disbelief....So I went home to check the BON and there it was....I am now a nurse........I cant believe it......I still look daily at my license....I had to change my way of studying I needed the review and I needed to start thinking as a nurse, thats a big thing.....If I did it you all will to Best Of luck to you all

I too am in your same boat! I took boards the 23rd and found out friday that I failed. It was hard to swallow but I am determined to pick myself up and try again. I know in my heart it is not a reflection of my intelligence nor is it a determination of the type of nurse I will make....but still a slap in the face nonetheless.

I am excited about starting Suzanne's Plan tomorrow. I have taken the weekend to recover!

Thank you to all of those who have shared their stories. It is encouraging to know that there are others out there too!:redbeathe
