anyone took 2 weeks to prepare?

  1. hi guys:

I need your help. I have 2 weeks to go before my nclex and i would like advice from anyone who had this little amount of time to prepare. What approach did you use and did you pass or fail? I have the Saunders CD and the kaplan q trainer i have done 3 tests on the trainer and have scored 60% 69% and 69%. i have not attempted any tests on the saunders cd as yet. Thanks a lot.

Did your school do any NCLEX prep work with you? I would hit Saunders because in my opinion it is the gold standard for NCLEX studying but hopefully others will write in also. How were your grades in school? Do you normally test pretty good? If you aren't scoring high enough on the practice tests maybe you could reschedule your exam?

IMO, Kaplan and Saunders together were good studying material for the NCLEX. Saunders is great for content review, and Kaplan is great for critical thinking type questions. Your scores in Kaplan are pretty good, but I would suggest finishing up all the question trainers before your exam. Question trainers 5,6, and 7 are supposed to be good indicators on how well you'll do on the real NCLEX. When i studied, i only did several hundred questions on the Saunders CD, and it was mostly to test myself on how well i knew my content. I did decent most of the time, but I felt that Kaplan helped me pass the exam. Good luck!

    hi guys:

Thank you for your response. LenaRN I am taking notes because need good strategies to help me prepare and lighten this anxiety.
Jules IMO i am not a bad testtaker and did very well in school. I had tried to change the date but my ATT expires on Oct 2. so i guess i have to either take the test or lose my money. thanks again for your help.

Let us know how you make out. I'd venture a guess that if you test ok and were a good student two weeks will be just fine. We did about 700 questions through school and then I studied for two weeks before taking it and it worked out fine. If I study too long I get bored and its not productive. Fingers crossed! Jules

My advice is to spend 6-8 hours each weekday studying at Borders or someplace like this to keep you awake. Take ear plugs. Do between 200 and 400 questions from Kaplan a day. Relax on the weekends and do nothing the day before. Also check out the contact, droplet, and airborne precautions on the Yale website. I prepared this way after I completed the Kaplan classroom and I passed Aug 30 with 75 questions. Not only did I pass, but I felt confident and felt like the Kaplan kinda tricks you into learning this stuff. For real, I am not a good test taker, and after all of my preparation, there is no way I could have failed.

All the best to you, as I mentioned to you before make sure you do trainer 5, 6, and 7, and do some saunders in the analysis and application questions, take care, wishing you great success.

I am w/everybody else Saunders, & Kaplan Trainer CD. I would not study too many hours a day or your mind will become too full & nothing will sink in. I would also suggest doing q's in different areas to see where you are weak....then hit those pretty hard.
BTW.. My daughter took hers, did not do the 1st practice question....her outlook was if I don't know it now I never will....she passed! I was a little more cautious! Good luck

Good luck to you sweetnnurse. You did much better than me on Kaplan's test. I think you are ready for the test. I took mine three days ago and passed with 75 questions. I did spend many hours a day to prepare it between 9/13 and 9/23 (about 10-12 hours a day). Hope that helps.
