So what I know is...
Wearing ppe in order:
Hand wash
Gown
Mask
Goggles
Gloves
PPE Removal:
Gloves
Goggles
Gown
Mask
Then I was reviewing the Saunders Q & A book and according to it, the right order of removal is:
GLOVES
MASK
GOWN
GOGGLES
Help I'm confused. Which is right for NCLEX???
Thanks!!
According to my nursing fundamentals book, its
GLOVES
GOGGLES
GOWN
MASK
So the same as the cdc. Now that I think about it, every time I leave an isolation room I always remove my gloves first and then compartmentalize my gown. Other then Fundametals labs I have never had to wear a mask or goggles.
I had the same question and have been thrown off by the contradictory information between the steps according to Perry & Potter's Clinical Nursing Skills and the Saunders Q+ A. However, she also states that the NCLEX will ask you to apply and will never ask you for the order of donning / removing PPE. Unfortunately, most practice tests do have such questions. So I'm still wary.
this thread reminds me of a clinical episode where I was donning PPE, and prior to leaving the patient's room, I removed the PPE and put it in the trash, like everyone else before me apparently did since it was filled with them. Well I get out, the grad nurse orientating with the patient's nurse tells me I should've disgowned (I don't know if that's a real word...) outside of the room, not inside. I didn't argue with her, so I asked my clinical instructor, and I was told the hospital policy is to disgown while still in the room (which made sense to me, considering all the discarded PPE were in the room) because disgowning outside the room would be bringing the contaminants into the unit.

You kind of have my curiosity up, I am going to pull out what my fundamental book says.
