NCLEX Content review or questions?

Hi all, i'm getting ready for my second retake on the NCLEX-RN and i'm wondering what would be best to help pass the NCLEX this time and i'm lost whether to go over questions or content to help pass the NCLEX second time around. Half of my friends say content helped them and the other half said doing a lot of questions helped, but from what Hurst review said, the number one reason why ppl fail the NCLEX is KNOWLEDGE deficiency, so I guess that means you have to know your content really well I suppose. What's the point of doing thousands of questions when your content area is weak? The more content you know the better chances of passing...but I'd like to know everyone's opinion about this. And what actually helped you pass the NCLEX, content review or question practice? Right now I am currently studying the Hurst review book for content.

Thank you

hi, i also had to retake nclex and just found out today i passed. On my opion i feel both are important. i used hurst review, listened to the video and concentrated most on my weak areas. while i was doing the contents, i was also doing questions from kaplan and nclex 3500. to pass nclex i believe, you got to understand the contents.

gudluck studying

Thanks Rence and Congratulations! :)

I would spend time on content and answer questions each day. If you really feel deficient in content, maybe you should consider an NCLEX review course.

Specializes in CTICU.

I did the questions at the end of the chapter of Saunders review book. If I got less than 80%, I reviewed the content and then retook the test.

IMO, you need to 'have sufficient knowledge of content so that you can learn how to use your content knowledge to answer what the question is REALLY ASKING.'

You need to review content and questions simultaneously. When you took your test, try to evaluate if you didn't know the answer b/c you didn't know the content or b/c you didn't know what the question was asking. This will help you determine if you should focus more time on content or questions.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Saint 637!

I would have to say that both helped me. I concentrated on content review during the first few weeks. But I still did a little practice by answering a few questions everyday. During the last few weeks of my review, I focused on answering NCLEX type questions. So I wouldn't have done it if one of the two was missing. And of course, let me add that I prayed a lot for guidance and wisdom.

God bless you on your retake :nurse:
