NCLEX and Chemistry/Physics?

I am a Canadian RN with a BSN. I've now moved down to WA state and am up to take the NCLEX shortly for licensure.

I can understand the differences between the Canadian RN exam (CRNE) and the NCLEX- but only once I started studying for the NCLEX, I am finding some review questions include things completely unrelated (ok, well perhaps not completely, but things that I did not need to know for my entire RN education/exam in Canada) such as:

-Electricity conductivity, resistance, amps, Ohms, etc

-Energy/electrical calculations

-Physics calculations

:confused::confused::confused:

I thought I had purchased the wrong book! Is this really the case? How much of this type of thing do you have to know?

For that matter, any questions that have caught you off guard that you might share?

:nurse:

If I were you, to satisfy my concerns, I would consider taking a live or online review, such as Kaplan or Hurst, to help me be satisfied that I am covering all the bases.

What book are you using to study? I am in the same boat as you, moved from BC to WA and waiting to take the NCLEX. I have been using the Saunders comprehensive review & Kaplan books as well as going through a bunch of my old notes. I haven't run into any questions like you describe. I'll be guessing if I get any like that:lol2:

Those sound like things I might expect on nursing school entrance exams, but not on the NCLEX.

Just a quick reminder not to post any questions that you got on the exam as that goes against the confidential agreement you sign when taking the exam

Thanks for the replies thus far. Silverdragon- thanks for the reminder. I am not interested for specific questions, but rather the nature of the questions which I should expect.

Janette- I moved from BC as well. :) Where are you located in WA? Msg me if you'd like some additional useful materials I found online (ie, conversion formulas from mmol/l to mg/dl for glucose, conversion formulas for Hgb levels, hCT, WA state nursing "norms", etc). When are you taking it?

I just bought the Kaplan books so I will be focusing on that, plus I signed up for the NCSBN course.
