hi everyone, i'm a newbie. i'm an RN, recently reviewing for ielts, scheduled on march. i have a tourist visa. i am planning to apply for NCLEX in Cali. Have printed the application form already. then what? hehe,, i am totally clueless.
what about fingerprint cards? how about the payment?
what i know about the application process is by:
1. send the application forms & other required papers to the BON.
2. then wait for the ATT card.
3. After receiving the ATT, register at PearsonVue online.
4. Schedule on a preferred date & venue.
am i correct? i need further detailed instructions. i plan to take nclex in hongkong.
any help, advise would be very much appreciated, i would be very grateful.
thank you!
welcome in the forum:balloons:suzanne, thank you for the prompt reply.i have a hypothetical question, if i get an ssn in ca, would i need to wait for 2 years of working experience before i can be endorsed to other state? is that why the ca license can be a headache if i decide to move to another state after a short span of time?
have been reading the threads & am not leaving the computer, skipped lunch even. hehe. love this forum.
thanks suzanne.
applying for social security number in california has nothing to do with your endorsement. the only thing is ca will not issue license without ssn. once you have an employment offer, your immigration papers are under process and you have employment authorization document(in aos) or you have a green card and you are physically present in the usa, you can apply for ssn. then you can send that to ca, they will send you the license. once you have a hard license(number) you can endorse it to other states. but each state has its own requirement....
i assume that you were asking "what if i choose to be licensed in ca first?", if it is your question...you need not have to work for 2 years in ca before endorsing your license elsewhere. but if you have signed a contract with your employer they may make you work for the signed period but still, it does not prevent you from endorsing your license to other states.
yes you are right, this is an addictive site.....suzanne is terrific

just one more question, if i get licensed at ny, my employer from ca would still sponsor me right?
You will still be getting a license in CA, but just via endorsement. Not sure what the issue is. To get a license in Ca via endorsement can be done in one day with a temporary license.
And yes, your employer can petition for you following this. Actual legal requirements is just passing NCLEX or CGFNS exam. California will also take you one month to get your results, NY is two days.
Look at the CA website for the BRN. You can get the fees from CGFNS from their website. NCLEX is $200 taken in the US, $350 taken in Hong Kong, etc.
NCLEX is a national exam with the same fee in the US. You will still need to pay for licensure in NY, and check their website for current prices.
how can i file my endorsement there in the US if my petition would only be filed after the endorsement? i won't be able to fly there without a visa.
i mean, you said only after the endorsement can my petitioner file my immigrant visa. so how can i process my endorsement (or go there) if i still have no visa?
thanks! just confused.
Dear, Debbie!
U sound very confused. Take my friendly advise and follow what Suzzane is telling u to do. She saved me so much time. And dont take CA, pleeease. Dont make the same mistake as I did. I started 4 years ago with CA. Yes, 4 years. I am not yet there. Believe me, first, they r slow, second, seems not very organized. Few times they've lost my papers, transcripts, the nursing program (I was the first candidate from my College and I had to send them the nursing program). There r some very helpful agents(very few), if u r lucky, they will reply the telephone and they will search for the lost papers and they will find it in a basket with all old, yellow papers, lying there since years. I had to make many duplicates of the documents and send them again. All this was done from my familly as I am not in my country at the moment.
I can not bring back the time. I wish I was u, so, I would never start my licensure with CA. I would like to go and work there, yes, but I would get my license in NY(for ex.) and endorse it later to CA. As Suzanne said, it takes a day only.
Ever since I follow Suzanne's advice, I didnt have any delay and I know I am on the right way. My VSC documents r all done in 2 months, of course, waiting for my English exam (in march) and NCLEX which I will have in HongKong too.
And start doing ur VSC documents meanwhile. U will only gain time. Here u will find very competent people that will save u months, if not years. Believe them!
All the best and Good Luck to u!

first, you do not have to be in the us to file for endorsement. you just need a license in one of the states.
second, your petition can be filed without endorsement of your license in the state of your intended employment. let me give you an example: let's say you have a license in ny state but you do not have a license in ca state. your employer is in ca, then your employer can file for your petition on the basis of your ny license..then later on you can endorse the license to ca ( again, you can do it from abroad also..you do not have to be in the us for endorsement of your license)and start working. you can not work without having license in the state of employment but your petition can be filed if you have license in any of the 50 states(or district of columbia ):)

Four years? I think this is just an isolated case (for any state)
Most people I know that did it on their own (w/o an agency) passed their NCLEX and IELTS and got their VSC cert. within 6-12 mos. upon starting their process reqardless of what State BON.
U can deduct 1 year for the deficiency that I had in MCH nursing from my country and I had to remove it by taking this course. I am done with the course and there r still 3 years trying to get to CA.
I wouldnt advise anyone to go trough that state. When I applyed they told me it will take little bit longer than what it takes in another state, which means 7-9 months. But all the lost papers... It really took me that long. I am just unfortunate to be Eastern European:rolleyes:
And I was taking the advices of my friends. Now I am following Suzanne. God Bless her!
Have a good day

hi suzanne
i have questions with regard to endorsement. if i choose to take the NY nclex & if i pass the exam, then i would endorse for CA. what if my petitioner is in CA? will they process my immigration papers if i am licensed in NY? or have it endorsed first before they process my immigration visa?
can someone process my endorsement, or do i need to process it personally in NY? and how long will the endorsement take from NY to CA?
thank you so much suzanne. you're an angel.
